W39 - LittleFüt

Took a break from practice ahead of the show with a single practice run to keep my experience in mind. Spent a lot of time reading on equipment this week. Met with A's sister and family while she was in town. Had 2 dinners together. Mostly managed gear prep and texted with D about issues. Touched up some things here or there in the files. Drove out to MagWest with gear and settled into hotel on friday (took an hour). While unpacking and setting up gear in hotel room, realized I had enough equipment to play a set of old tracker music. Took 15 minutes to create a rough set list and went down and performed using Little Game Park Tracker (running on miyoo mini), M8, and S-1 with my Bastl Bestie mixer for 20 or so random people. Joked with D about the idea of bigfooting. A lot of pressure taken off once we unpacked all the gear. Drove to San Francisco later to meet with my partner and to go to her first rave/dance club experience. Saw Paranoid London live at a 1015 Folsom. Excellent experience watching them use 808, 202, and 303 live. All live mixing and 4 korg monotron delays and vocal mic. Wild night. Drove home at 3:30am.

Drove back to Magwest. D's kids and K came to hang out in the room until we went on. Met with D and waited on M who was with family and driving out. Worked on show prep. M finally came.  Was out of country so we had not done a full practice run together until a few minutes before load in. Rig worked. D organized cables and did prep. T,K, and A came to help take gear down to stage. Set up was quick sound check was quick. Started on time and ended on time. Set went well without any issues other then the stand for my eurorack lowering at the beginning. Managed to build a crowd. Loaded out and talked to a few people. Took everything back to room. Said bye to friends and partner. Talked with R, M, and D to decompress while have some drinks about work and also the set. Stayed up with M and D to talk about plans, inspirations, and direction for new Delorean Overdrive stuff until 4am. Did alright despite all of the obstacles.

Woke up packed and checked out. Finally had time to walk around event and check out other performances. Spent time exploring indie game dev. Talked to C, I, J, E, GR, G, and other performers and organizers. Really talked with E about old scene stuff and outsider perspective. Wanted to convey how good the experience was this year. Talked with K about chiptune, scenes, art, dev, playdate, etc. and was introduced to another dev (Vacuum Brew Studios) with some interesting interacting games across computers. Also enjoyed the Glitch princess, Quartett, and concept of Chess RPG. Stayed until event was winding down and took off.

Met with A at home and had a quiet evening talking before going to bed early.

Consumed: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Stazma - Shape Shifter - Caring Too Much, Primal Scream - Screamadelica - Xtrmntr, Paranoid London - Annihalate the world & start over, Dabuell - Analog Love, Bill Fisher - How to think like a Billionaire,

Gear Used:
Dirtywave M8
Roland S-1
M1 Laptop Mic
Tascam DR-40

Software Used:
Ableton
Izotope Ozone 10

Made from WB started 2-ish weeks prior but abandoned (built around exploring s-1 patches and using m8 for percussion synthesis). Used old break created over 2 years ago. Added parts and sections for the sake of it. Slowed tempo for more space between stuff. Used generative FM synth sound design but not composition. Created and recorded into stereo. Layered time stretched vocal samples in ableton with H. Let Ozone make the mastering choices and exported. Performed this and W10 - Rolling Dreams as part of improvised set the following day.

File Names: "W39 - Hilda" Ableton, "W39-littlefut" M8,

Love that wobbly lead in the intro. Good sound design in general!

sounds like quite an eventful weekend!
this track is excellent so crisp. i can imagine how powerful it would sound live on nice big speakers.
cheers!

Enjoyed this, love those leads and lots of little details, sounds great. Looks like you had a busy weekend, sounds exhausting and fun!

I hear echoes of a land before time. Did not know about MagWest, hope to make it some year!!

Eventful and stressful at times but actually great. Was riding off the high for a while after. I actually have access to a PA system... perhaps I should try some of the WB tracks on those. I am curious too smile

Thanks for the kind words.

Busy, exhausting, but ultimately very rewarding. It felt good to do the damn thing especially since I don't get to play live as much as I used to and even less with my bandmates. We had been working on things all this month it was nice to see it come together.

Magwest is a fun time. We were so busy with prep, travel, and wind down I didn't quite get to experience it as much as I would have liked. That's my one regret from the week.
