W27 - BodyMove

Partner's parent needed dental work. Rode bike to Meet partner at cafe. Rode Park Street's new bike lane for first time. Visited new TT game store. Got rocks from spiritual goth store. Watched a dancing feather man in the streets enter the store and ask for supplies and "cleansing" or something. Wild. Shirtless with laker's jersy later. Assumed he was on something but seems like that's just his vibe and the workers knew him by name. Returned back to therapy after their vacation. 4th of July parade with a nice viet meal after minigolf w/ arcade, and fireworks watching on the firescape with partner. Rode to the park, read book listen to records, and convinced partner to join. Had crappy sonic the hedgehog icescream. Watched The Abyss next to partner. Lots of Star Trek TNG season 7. Most episodes are good to excellent except Subrosa. evening walk with Friends and baby. Ran into former classmate from bootcamp on evening stroll. Have not seen anyone from that time since prior to pandemic 2019. Talked to AL about working together on contract project. Argued over learning drum machines and sharing hobbies. Miscommunication over nothing. Reacting to eachother's shortness and impatience. Talked it out and realized wasn't a big deal or worth getting into it as it was nothing. Got Blue berry blue cheese burger while walking with friends. Picked up some cheese and salami. Greek salads from the market.

Great Week all together. Very happy.

Spent most of week tinkering with Ableton to make a simple synth tool for Delorean Overdrive. Song was made from the tool as a test run of it's use. Aimed to make an electro inspired track. Played a lot with simple delay. Some generative sequencing of the effect application. Made yesterday in 10-15 minute bursts.

Sounds like a good eventful week.  The track brings a fun vibe.  Is that a dog barking in there?  Whatever it is, it adds a lot to the funtime feel.

hell yeah, Abyss. i know this track doesn't necessarily fit the aesthetic of the movie, but i'm having a fun time imagining this blasting out deep under water.
those synth leads are super fun!

Haha not a dog. I did some panting sounds though. Thanks for checking it out smile

Abyss was great! I can't believe it took me this long to see it. Thanks for checking out the song smile

This flows right, some good electro. When the drums come in I was moving along. Synths, all of it sounding great! I could picture this in the Abyss actually. When they are piloting their crafts around. It would change the vibe of it, more fun, less ominous perhaps, but could be interesting, haha. I like that movie, been a long time. Enjoyed your week's notes above. Sounds fun and eventful week! I also did some riding around on a bike. Consumed some star trek discovery, no TNG, but TNG is superior. Cool how you logged and chronicle life. I think that has some benefits. Do you write, blog, post elsewhere too?

Thanks for checking out my recent songs smile haha I can kind of see the Abyss tie in now. TNG is definitely superior. I just finished up with show my partner all of it and we are moving to DS9 now.

I don't have a blog anywhere and I am actually not a big social media user generally. I started the more filled out write ups this year mostly for technical reasons but it has also been helpful to reflect and digest the weeks. I like the idea of having an archive of where my mind was when creating tracks and the process tied with associated files and other stuff. Sometimes the events of the week end up bleeding into the tracks.

In previous years I didn't catalog so tightly and it made it hard to release and find things or to go back to work on old tracks. It's kind of become a weird "commonplace book" or journal perhaps. It's honestly been really helpful for me. It keeps me relatively organized and helped me grow because I can better look back at what I have tried in the past.

Love the groove of the beat and those deep bass hits synced with the kick.  So cool how that was a pant from ya, it takes on a totally diff quality in the mix.

The higher, panned plucky sounds are so neat. You seem to always find great ways to add pizzazz and character to a drum beat. I also really like the big synth swells and panting(?) taking turns.

Haha, yeah the panting felt a bit over the top at the time but it seems to catch people's attention. Makes things a bit feral I suppose.

Your drum beat comment is quite encouraging! Drums and percussion has always been one of my weaker points previously for writing. I've been working on it a lot this year and I've felt like I've improved.

Haha yes it's panting. It felt like a nice response to the synths at the time to build the groove. I was trying to go for some old electro hiphop party stuff like Afrika Bambaata, and Cybotron. Songs like Planet Rock and Clear find strange rhythmic sounds to bring the vibes. Jimmy edgar's Majenta also immitate's this well.

I ended up in a bit of a different territory but hopefully caught some of the flavor.
