AL's B-day is next monday. Spent the week celebrating w/ her. Ordered her gifts and gave them as they came in. Tomodachi Life and fountain pen ink w/ better archival and art properties. Works better w/ dip pens then previous inks too (according to her). Took a while to find a good one. Bowling w/ T&K, L&R, T&D, and ALF. In Laws needed help translating to talk to electrical contractors. Insurance being shitty and contact left w/o helping or properly passing on our file. Concerned about getting fire construction done before money for apartment runs out. Conflict w/ contractors on licensing and permits. Discovered redwood frame under wall dating back to early development of area. House's wiring retroactivly installed and wildly out of date. Needs to brought up to code. In laws want to short cut w/ their own contractor. AL is fighting w/ there immigrant survival instincts.

Bike ride out for lunch and visited record shop. Found decent early pressing of Dave Brubeck Quartet Time Out to pick up. Reminded of my father listening to it again. Listend to Japan earlier record in shop and Vietnamese traditional folk music recorded in the 40's or 50's. Cake w/ friends at T&K's. Talked about baby on the way. Waited in line early for new local bakery. Asian American flavoring. Shared w/ group.

[808Faith&Breaks] - Generative track designed last week and edited this week. 808 and chopped samples. Built around clip launch follow actions, modulation, and beat repeating effects.

Awesome beats here, nice breaks and glitch drums. So good.

sweet sound design on both these tracks! i dig em

Love that deep bendy bass over the exploding beats. The glitchy percussion on song2 is awesome.  yikes An epic trip!

Whoa. This was a sick journey. Breaks are amazing.

1 = WHOA
2 = AWW YEAH. this part really landed for me

Thanks! I was having a fun time with the LSDJ one. There is a lot of extra sound design tools that previously did not have access to when I was using it more regularly. It was really fun to explore with new eyes, more capability, and a bit more knowledge in my more seasoned state.

I was proud of that bass smile Nice to see someone notice. I don't think I could have done that with older versions of LSDJ. Thanx for listening!

1 is a bit messy but, it was a good learning experience smile

2 was more my wheelhouse but took a lot of time tweeking to build a system that worked. I am glad you liked it!

5_10_26: Agree with you and Tone Matrix that the bass steals the show. But I also really like the CR78-style toms, the fast claps, the lasers, and that little rhythm hiccup right before the bass drop around 0:48. A party in a warzone.

808Faith&Breaks: Nice working designing your system for this, because it feels quite cohesive. The kick bassline is a swaggering anchor for the whole thing. Here, I'm imagining the whole 808 kit as a jazz combo with each piece or pair taking turns to solo. Highlights: the melting clave around 2:24, the ultra-fast hats around 2:46, and the cowbell-into-psych-bells section (especially 3:48-4:40ish)

LOL, that crunchy riff at the start is so confident and brash. big_smile

Great development throughout with the busy breaks, bends and blindsides.

Thank you smile It's been fun diving back into LSDJ and seeing what can be done in the latest software. It's a bit mind bogling compared to what we had in the 00s. I don' think I could do those sound w/ out the updates.

For the 808 track, it's always tough working with generative systems. I found stapling down a few of the drum elements helped a lot in keeping things cohesive. The BD and snare have generative sequence variations that decorate the core beat but those consistent elements really helps in locking down the feel. I think the automated out of phase clip launching was also pretty key. Those parts are also generative but for high level structure they are predictable. I am glad you like the melting cow bell smile I was proud of that one.

Cheers smile I was doing my best to translate the feel of 1st 44 from Collapse EP into LSDJ. It's a bit of a task but doable(-ish) if you squint real hard and accept some sacrifices tongue
