(Late Documentation)

AL worked on new Zine. Ate out while walking. Vaccine appointment. Got 3. Arms sore and feeling sick for a few days. In law house ready for construction but not temporary housing. Not sure if they would spend the night. Sorted it due to kind landlord (who'd of thought) and moved in instead. Helped setup them set up apartment. Ate dinner at market place. Helped KB setup new art school venture. Rode bike to the new rented space helped build easels and tables. Talked about wives, cars, and life. Hurt back by helping and later playing with sample SK-1 keyboard on the floor. Managed to sort it before got worse. Construction happening above. Confirms neighbor has moved out. Rumored  health problems (by older downstairs neighbors) confirmed may not be able to self care for anymore. Brunch at local dinner and dropped off e-waste w/ K&T. Browsed by looking at shopping center. Looked for tool box at hardware stores. Could not find any good ones.

Picked up in-laws and had family gathering. Al's mom's birthday dinner at hotpot place stopped by farmers market and took her to massage. Took walk in neighborhood. talked with friends about Coachella performances and how to integrate some ideas live for Delorean Overdrive. Thinking of what to do for wife's b-day. Want to disassemble Delorean Overdrive live patch to use modular freely again. Need to document patch properly before doing so. Like to review verbalized poem recorded when driving back home previously. Looking at E-ink displays to show photos in apartment.

Late writing. Don't remember details well. Had to ask AL for reminders (4/24/26).

Monsters - Originally created to try a resampled sampled bass technique described by MachineDrum. Used technique in the past but thought it was worth review. Exploring using sampling for synth tones more lately. Scrubbing starting point allows for interesting varied results. Wanted to try integrating less synthetic sounds and more complex chords. Trying to expand music theory skills. Originally longer song. Remembered, The Age of Magical Overthinking by Amanda Montell's section on subtractive problem solving studies. Removed unneeded layers and shortened song down to most interesting part.

4_14_26 - Sampled borrowed TR-8 to make new library of sounds. Already have 808 and 909s samples so tried to add more processed version to mix it up. Ran through Analog Heat. YTer/podcaster (can't remember who) off handedly mentioned ReCycle being free and available for modern apple computers. Tried it out to automate sampling. Life changing. Shortened workload by several hours. Tested samples in Renoise. Test became full song. Wanted to add some breaks. Found a Apache break cover via tabla instead of congas/bongos. Sampled via Blackhole 2. Processed and chopped in Ableton. Made growl sample at the same time w/ operator. Learned how track sends work in Renoise. Stacked vsts and sends on drums. Pulling from Selected ambient works drum production (just a kind in his bedroom). Messy. Found polyphony bug when using ADSR modulators on samples. Fine for test song.

File Names: 4_13_26 Monsters, 4_14_26 Sounds and breaks (Ableton), 4_14_26 (Renoise),

BOGO!

nice & precise

Love your drum grooves.  They instantly create a head nod. The chords so nice on the epiano but oof that gritty synth yikes
The 2nd giving me some wonderful 'rdj/squarepusher come over to jam' vibes. \m/

2nd tune is more me. I like the housey stepper with the spooky chords. Very cool noisy synth at the end!

you da best

Thank you. I am trying some different things lately. That rough synth in the first song is the core of some of the explorations. I've been trying to sample complex sounds and moving around the starting points to create a more live feeling motion. There's a old MachineDrum interview where he talked about doing that to create basses. I had tried it before but never really integrated it into my production techniques. I've been refining the idea more. In later weeks.

I think this week the 2nd song is more my style too. I was testing some drum processing stuff that goes against some of my more conventional production practices.

Punchy and tight! Nice work.

never invested in these but have been pondering the investment - wondered if you've seen them/if they might fit your needs toyo toolboxes

Yes! I've checked those out in the shops in the past actually! They have a really nice build. It's very satisfying how clean their hinges and mechanical details are. They are really made to last. I was incredibly tempting but, I talked myself out of them. If I had a proper workshop or work purpose, I'd happily invest in one. For my purposes of compiling all our stray junk tools around the apartment, I'll probably go for a canvas tool bag instead.

I want to replace those cheap injection molded kit cases for our bike and normal tools. They never closed well and we have a few of them that are all falling apart from basic use. They've been driving me crazy. With a bag, it'll be quicker and easier to kick under a corner shelf tongue
