W06 - Tết Reflection (VCV Semi-Generative)

It's the lunar new year this week and there have been some big changes career wise for my partner and I am working shifting mental gears in that regard too. I've spent time honoring tradition and ancestors,  embracing the new, and reflecting with my family this week. Cousins are adults now and my brother and I have slotted into new family roles as the elders are settiling into post work lives.

I spent a lot of time considering old creative methods and limitations of past selves this week. I guess this is what comes out of that. I feel thankful for many things and proud of the small triumphs. It's somewhat bitter sweet as I also am thinking of some things that didn't pass as I'd have hoped and wondering if I would be different If they hadn't happened. Trying to invite the Good luck next year and the years coming as much as I can as a not so superstitious person.

Gear Used:
None

Software Used:
VCV Rack 2 (Generative base)
Ableton (generative layering and mixing/mastering)
Izotope Ozone 10 (master)
Tape [max] (summing character)
Tal U-No-LX (Generative Chords)
Aberrant DSP Digitalis (character)

Ended up generating composition out of generative parts and live patching in VCV. Would like other options for generative sequencing outside of Turing machine. Layered additional generative percussion and chords in ableton. re-recorded until printed material sounded good. Mixing manually sequenced. basic eqing and effects. Tried to add character from tech used in past (G4/XP PC/Performa/cassete tape recorder) and revive some of the creative thinking used with old cracked software and demos when young. Moved fast and late for this one. It's been busy.

Hard to remember now exactly what was what but I am pretty sure those are from VCV rack with some generative patterns being provided by turing machine.

Thanks! Glad someone finds it interesting. I thought it came out ok for a rushed experiment/idea.

The older we get the more it happens tongue

I know that's right! I catch myself staring off into space sometimes now, no music playing, just lost in thought

beautiful track. really enjoying the mellow introspective pads against the busy percussion parts. the chime sounds toward the end are lovely.
