W05 - Electrique dagger (LittlePiggyTracker)

By ENC_ on February 4, 2024 2:01 pm

I've stumbled on a large quantity of old music on an old hard drive that I had assumed was lost after I had an old laptop stolen. All of the music is from around 2007 - 2012 during a time where I was transitioning away from 8bit/16bit chiptune production and focused on performing sample based tracks with the goal of to sounding less niche. I played a lot of random venues and parties around this time with these tracks. It was a lot of fun and late night drives from place to place back then. I have some fond memories tied to this time and music.

It sounds a bit rough to my ears now but it was the first steps into my current musical project. I spent a lot of time fixing, mixing, updating, and mastering these and some live recordings of performance I did from 2021-2023. I intend to release these sometime this year. I've finalized about 95 minutes of audio this week. There is still more to do.

This is one of the old tracks completed.

Gear Used:
Playstation Portable (Original device used to compose)

Gear Sampled:
Korg Monotron (all synth sounds and original kick)

Software Used:
LittleGameParkTracker
Sound toys Micro Shifter
Moog MF-104s
Inphonik RX950
Izotope 10

Rendered out using djdiskmachine's updated versions window version of LGPT and the config.xml Split real time render to produce track stems. Processed, mixed and mastered in Ableton on main OSX laptop. Adjusted stereo spread, cleaner EQing and Updated the sound design. File was too old to work with the last versions of LGPT released. Had to adjust the downsampling of all of the song's instruments by 1 to 2 values down for proper sound design. Repaired before render. LGPT file created March 11, 2009. Tried to keep original intentions intact with minimal cleanup.

File Name: Ableton "W05 - Electriq Dagger LGPT”, LGPT "lgpt_Electrique dagger"

Wow, wild to find an archive like that, especially when you thought it was all gone!!! Must be a trip listening to this older version of yourself smile
Intense stuff here, I super like the energy. The power drill sounds work super well here, hahahaha... Gives stuff a very "I'm doing my own thing and it's awesome" vibe. And I agree with the vibe, hahahaha... Very cool, excited to hear more!

Fascinating that it came from the PSP.

Loose and wild, and still sounds phat and phocused! Sounds like a fun project to rediscover and finalize all that music.

It truly has been a crazy experience. Half of the fun in finding it has been seeing how much I have grown skill wise and interests wise. I think I was much more focused on making "party music" mixed with chiptune and more weird elements. Some of it is down right obnoxious but I was clearly experimenting a lot. I'm just happy some of the music wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

HAHA yeah, IDK if had enough experience to not end up doing my own thing. It was very much brute force learning through trial and error. I believe the drill sound is actually a sample from a Korg monotron noodling. I checking the samples I used and they all are a-tonal sounds I made while playing with one of those. It was one of my frist analog hardware synths I had access to.

It was my main writing tool for a few years before Ableton eventually took over. I also made some of the other songs on Caanoo and a Dingoo.

It's been fun so far. Feeling a little daunting to sort through and mix everything but I am finding some gems that keep the nostalgia driven motivation alive for now.
