unexceptional americanism

By emily on May 29, 2022 3:24 pm

She watched the heat lightning pulse outside the window. The atmosphere was palpable with an electric energy. The steamy rather sticky evening grew cooler as the breeze picked up and started to stir a chill dampness into the night air. She felt the shift in spacetime... waiting to go on another journey... it felt like they were coming... to make contact with her & with anyone willing   to watch   and wait    and listen

...seen and unseen forces are mobilizing - we are in the midst of another revolution/revelation

>>>---> excerpt from 'revolution angels' by emily - more of an idea than a work in progress... working on this song kinda resurfaced an abandoned project <---<<<

some reflections this week:

-Sisyphus

-a direct line

-undermining democracy

-a tyranny

I love the sub bass! I'm glad I'm listening on my nice headphones because I don't think I'd even hear it. the choir is awesome too. I love all the open space in your recent work.

you are thinking heavy thoughts lately. thank you for keeping them on my radar. I think it is a very good thing that confronting domestic terror is actually in the dialog of the current regime (for now). lose some battles, win some others, I guess. be well.

Really outstanding work from you this week and I appreciate the important messages you're sharing as well heart

very nice!! how did you make the drums?

It's yet another tragic week in America.  Thanks for sharing your thoughts and reflections.  The choir-like sounds and propulsive bass line are really cool and give this a sense of urgency.

(What happens w/ your submissions is that your links / thoughts send me on exploration of various things, for which I am always grateful. It's a shame, however, that in doing so I selfishly drop the ball on commenting / expressing gratitude for things you share and comment on the music that always touches and inspires.)

Heavy track. The choice of that bass sound is really appropriate. Bringing a basic, simple synth sound against the complexity of the vocal layers.

I cannot imagine how the families of the children feel now. Let's not allow them to become statistics.

making mystic or existentially ominous tracks is nowhere better done, as on your emily channel. I love the airy, almost frosty vocals mixed with the warm subbass grounding. the drumms are an excellent addition. A track I deeply got lost in. well done. I am sorry there is so much to worry about. be well.

Heavy times = Heavy thoughts heart  I guess I just don't want to become numb/get used to this stuff.  If we think and speak about these things perhaps it will help bring positive change...???

It took me a while to get that pause in the middle to sit right with the loops - I was also annoyed cause could not find the sub bass enhance that I had used on the past couple tracks - glad it came through in the headphones... I may work on the mix a bit more on this one at some point...  That choir loop is cool - both that and the higher repeated vocal part were just stock loops in gargageband that I added a bit of processing on...

Stock loops in garage-band with some processing on them.

Their families & the children who survived & the children observing this - I heard on the news this morning that many school children in the area were asking their parents to take them to the funeral services. Pandemics, War, Terrorism, Climate Crisis... I wish no children in the world had to think of such things.

sounds like an interesting project! I'd be interested to hear more.

I love the airy vocals, the part where it stops suddenly is really cool. I really dig the forward momentum in this, it fits the narrative really well and resonates with current events.

thanks for the reflections, please take care heart

Going to have to replay this one in the studio tonight. Love listening to your creations every week.

Wow this is incredible !

that last link is historian Heather Cox Richardson in a recent interview
- her substack Letters From An American - is very insightful - she writes almost daily letters putting current events into historical context

Some time ago, tried to reach out, but your email link is off on this site. I think maybe that's for the best, though, and saying stuff should be secondary to learning from stuff you're kind to share, so just wanted to say thanks for the links.

The synths and drums def create that sense of urgency.  The vocals give it that extra haunting quality.  Such an ethereal feel to them.  I like how they have a pulsing effect to them.  Well done!

thank you TM!

So awesome! The voice is amazing, and the insistent bass, I'm camptivated. Love the title, and the words you shared, looking forward to seeing more! Let the revolution and revelations come, let's welcome it and craft them.

Full on cyberpunk this week! Really cool vocal chorus effects are otherworldly and futuristic.  Love that drop in the middle where the bass comes back in... kind of bad ass!

track title really hits me.  i want to believe that we are better than this.  i think i still do.

1:54 unexpected drop was devastating.  it really was a bomb going off, and then next sound was the sound of an alarm.  the ghostly vocals are the lives lost.  sad

great programming on the glitch tempos at the end (how'd you do that?!)

this was "intro credit sequence to post apocalyptic film" vibes

feeling a bit just downright apocalyptic lately wink

i live in hope that we will strive for this kind of exceptionalism:

“Power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.” ― Martin Luther King Jr.

i don't think i changed the tempos' i think you could just hear that glitchy loop better as i dropped the other bits out & i think there is some delay on there...
