Here We Go

My Audiobox USB decided to die.  I had to use one of my pedals (TC Helicon Play Acoustic) to input guitar into my computer.  I didn't have all the right adapters so I had to use the headphone out jack on the pedal into my sound card.  It worked out okay, but introduced some serious noise.  I was able to EQ and multiband compress away most of the noise without too much sacrifice of sound.

On the bright side, I've now ordered a two channel preamp (Presonus Bluetube DP V2) which should be here on Tuesday.  From the Amazon reviews it's a fantastic preamp but with cheap Chinese tubes so I ordered a couple of JJ's ECC83S tubes that which incidentally already arrived.  I'm hopeful that it will end up giving superior results to the Audiobox.  We'll see.

This song is another with no vocals, mostly because I didn't want to deal with the noise that I probably would have got from another mic running through the pedal.

How long did the audiobox last? Mine  is 5 years old and monitors don't work anymore. Really breezy track, feels like the perfect start to Feb.

I had it for 3 years.  I'm thinking it may be okay and there may just be driver conflicts with something else on my PC.  I'll try it on my laptop when I get time and see.  The new preamp is probably going to be a better solution anyway.

I kinda like the ambient noise in the background and the track has an almost early Pink Floyd vibe ala San Tropez.

Mellow. Love those "curls" on the trumpet.

Thanks, although the ambient noise was not intended but a product of a combination of substandard gear and a mediocre sound engineer. smile

I always appreciate any comparisons to Pink Floyd.  So double thanks!

I just played them on a keyboard.  The trumpet sound is provided via MIDI from Studio One 3's Presence XT synth.  As was the sax sound.  Unfortunately, I don't play either instrument.  The only brass instruments I ever played were Tuba and Sousaphone and that was a looong time ago.

Great track, Edmund. I know it was a "happy accident" but I completely agree to that early Pink Floyd comparison. It also reminds me to some of the Beta Band's early demos. Love those ... organs (?) that appeared briefly along with the horns.

Loving your instrumental work.

I've had a Firewire Presonux Firebox for 5 years without an issue. Try some firewire stuff because it usually have higher specs and most laptop owners don't want them because they don't have the ports to use them. All my cards are second hand and run without a hiccup on Mac and Linux.

I may consider one of those.  I'm enjoying the Bluetube v2 preamp so far.  I almost went with a Firewire box but I read a lot of reviews that they don't play well with firewire built onto motherboards and that's all I have right now.  I could have added a PCIe firewire card as well I suppose.  They're only like $20 USD.
