An Alternate Reality

By E-dub on August 7, 2016 8:48 pm

After recording this, I realized that it doesn't have a bassline.  It's not bad, even without, as alternative pop songs go, but I think a bassline might help with the otherwise high pitches in the chorus.  But I'm no expert.

Anyway, I'm particularly proud of the lyrics in the second verse because I think I'm clever even if no one else does.

------------------------------------------------------------
V1

In this world, you and I are strangers who just sat near each other on a train.
We will never even speak and not because I’m meek but
You are tired of fighting off the weirdos down on Main.
And I have lots of empathy for that kind of pain.
Even though we should be together.

Chorus

There’s an alternate reality where I love you and you love me.
We have a home on a piece of land and all the friends that we can stand.
There’s never war or blistered feet and everyone gets enough to eat.
And I love you and you love me in an alternate reality.

V2

AR number 146 is ruled with an iron fist by a raving demagogue named Barmus Prime
And while living there would not be great there’s always 748
Where you and I have vowed to love each other for all time
And that world is completely free of crime.
And I know that we should be together.

Repeat Chorus

Bridge

I’m working on a machine
To take me to a place
Where you and I are together

Repeat Chorus

Outro

Where’s my alternate reality?
I’m coming for you.
I know there ain’t no such thing as meant to be.
But there’s an alternate reality for me.

Oh, you are, you are clever! Great concept well realized.

Don't miss the bass at all.

+1 on you being clever, these lyrics are totally satisfying smile

Nice catchy song with great lyrics.  I don't suppose a bassline would hurt, but I agree I didn't miss it either.

Thank you.  I actually may redo this one.  Not because of bass, but because it's probably too close to a Matchbox 20 song from the '90s.  I need to change the melody a bit probably.
