Grind It, Polish It

By Dustsucker on January 25, 2026 10:08 pm

The latter part of this week I've been under the weather. Got a sinus infection, so that might explain why this one feels like a bit of a fever dream. The funny timing trick is a nod to Stolpernova by Knalpot, who did it way better. Wish I could've spent a bit longer grinding and polishing this one, but I really need to get some sleep now.

Started with a super crooked beat on the OP-1F using uneven timings in the sequencer. At first I thought it was too random to make into a track. But after sampling it into M8, it somehow turned into this abomination. Played a couple jazzy chords on my partners Yamaha e-piano for the bridge. Finished it up with some small mastering tweaks in Logic.

This scratches my brain in such an excellent way to chops and pauses are perfect

Very good, man! The vocal chipping and general work is super cool!!!

Sounds like the most fun sinus infection! I love that you're leaning into the wonk of it all.

Is it just my smutty mind 😂

Loving the wonky beat on this M8. All the percussion is spot on. Great stuff... Again!

A dirty mind is a joy forever roll

Well ground & polished!

its super fun, love how thick and funky it feels. Sorry to hear about the sinus sad

Oh, super funky. Again with the perfect little hesitations and lurches. And that sweet wandering bridge section is a great juxtaposition.

This makes me feel janky and off kilter in all the best ways.

Absolute chaos heart
The m8 on a turntable idea is really fun and makes for a great vid!

LOVE the warm transition at 1:20 letting go of that tension
great track, killed it

Oh shit! That groove.
Haha abomination is a great way to describe this, but somehow in a (very) good way.
That bridge, too.

I fucking love this!

Feel better soon!

Get well soon! Love all the directions this goes, returning to that kick-ass grindy-polished foundation smile

bless up 🙏

The groove on this one is great! Great sound design as well! Really love your stuff!

Love the tumbling off canter beat, the glitch's and scary alien sound then the section at 1:00 kicked me in the face. Mellow breakdown with bloopy bonkers off pitch jazz solo was super nice. Then some nice mellow chord and now this alien sound is scaring me again. All the little plonks are really fun, lots of work there! Love this track, it's a banger!

Had to check out the Knalpot track before this one. As usual, your track is a banger. Killer bass with crunchy, blown-out percs. Creepy harmonized lead (make me think of Dies Irae). Extreme syncopation that wobbles like an expert circus perform who always pretends he's going to fall. But what struck me comparing this and your inspiration is you inverted their structure--you've got a dirty track with a pretty breakdown, they did the opposite.

(Hope you're feeling better now!)

You know I love some wonky beats. This is grade--A wonkyville. You do great work with picking sounds and mixing.
