Happy week three everyone, and thanks to this community for being awesome.

Each year, I have a side goal of listening to every song for each week. I'm almost through all of week two, but gotta catch up with week one smile

This week I tried to stay the course with my 2026 creative constraints:

• Call and response
• Lotsa of space
• “Speed trash”
• Acoustic drums, electric bass, electric guitar, and vocals only, recorded in that order

I’m not sure I want to keep using the term “speed trash.” I love the concept, but I’m still searching for a different word for the process, which for me is flow state, no filtering, no edits, and being excited about whatever happens.

Process-wise, I’m really enjoying starting with drums.

When I started today, I had no idea what the melody would be, and I’m learning that it kind of doesn’t matter. I just start, knowing I want space, call and response, etc.

The drums feel a little busy (in parts) in this one, and that’s okay.

For week two, @emily asked how I’m recording these. I’m using a Tascam Model 12, a mixer that can record 12 separate tracks.

@emily and @ViridianLoom also asked about vocal processing. I’m running my mic into an Eventide Ultratap pedal and manipulating the pedal controls in real time. This week, I added a Ditto looper before the Ultratap and that was v fun.

I love loop.
I love fog.

Can't wait to hear everyone's w3!

Love the nasty guitar tone and the allowance of space in the arrangement.

Rock yeah!

Those guitars are nasty. Not sure if you did reach the goal of "lots of space" on this week track, (at 1m30 you indeed left quite a bit), but the track is super busy in the best possible way.

Really like the drums processing on this week track. It sounds really cool!

I really like your hyper processed vocals, but I have a challenge for you, I'd be super interested to hear you sing with "almost dry" vocals. (A quick delay and some room or plate reverb, bit of saturation and some compression only)

(It is your tracks you do as you pleased, but I feel it could be super cool!

Take care.

* 2m30, sorry. smile

FUZZ. That is some big crunch you got there. Love what's coming out of your constrained process, so raw and vibrantly alive.

For sure, I've always found the term "speedtrash" to be a bit self-deprecating which isn't great for the self-kindness we try to encourage around here. But damn if it isn't a catchy and easy term to latch onto. Maybe speed-sesh? Or something a bit more lynchian relating to deep focus.

Ooo, actually, there's this book called the Dictionary of Obscure Shadows that creates words for feelings that don't exist and the author often uses existing etymology to construct these words. For instance, I named a song from 2022 after one of those words--Aubadoir--which is a combination of French aubade, an ode to the morning + abattoir, slaughterhouse. Pronounced “oh-bah-dwahr.” I could see constructing a new word stream-of-conciousness, in-the-moment takes.

I'm really riffing off the concept in my mind so I guess I'll spend some time these week thinking of an alternative term, haha. If I think of anything worth while I'll bounce it by you on discord.

Ok enough of that, let's actually get to the topic of your song. I really like your performance on the drums (I don't think they're too busy!) and the rapid and noisy guitar noodlings at the end from 2:20 onwards are fun. I especially like when you switch from the pick to tapping/plucking on the strings over the fretboard. What are you using for the fuzz tone?

I love your studio space by the way. Looks rad smile I might have said that already, but man, I wish I had a space like that.

really nice listen, well done!

Killer. Great drum sounds, and the intensity is motivating. The main duuuurnt motif is cool. I like how it comes back at the end with just the drums hitting the pattern. I still hear it in my head when that happens, a nice variation on the idea.

love this so much dude

sick guitar sound and love the feel of the drums especially at the end. well done!
