Embers

That's it. First lyrics (cringe), first recorded vocals (even more cringe).
But I survived and managed to finally do the big scary. Now it will only get better (I hope).

I'm definitely going to WB jail, because I didn't manage to learn to play hanago smoothly enough to record whole song, so I sampled all sounds and put them into Ableton Live.
Then I did what feels like milion takes of vocals until I decided I cannot get any better. (also my wife helped me with lyrics a bit)

It's not good, but it's done.

lyrics (they would be worse without my wife's help big_smile )

Vocals sound good to me.  I hope we get more of them.  The song has an appealing homespun quality to it.  It's a little minimalistic, but I honestly think that's a strength here.  I won't be turning you in to any WB authorities.  You got the job done, and that's what counts.

cool song! in 7?? bonus points!

I like the midi-like instrumental part, no idea what it is - hanago?!?!?!?! cool!

post lyrics!

don't worry about the vocal quality at this point, just keep cranking em cause it will get better as u sing more! good start in any case!

Thanks! I hope so too big_smile my goal is to "kickstart" my solo project, where vocals are a thing, so I need to get going. I wanted to do pretty minimal, "intimate" song, that's why it's only (sampled) instrument and a voice.

Thank you! heart

Yes! In 7/4. I have my own extra constraints, one of which is I only use odd/complex (or - "non common" wink ) meters. So no 4/4, 3/4, 6/8...

Hanago is a "guitar x lyre x kalimba"

I got it via kickstarter some time ago and never really used it. And now had idea that did fit well with it. I just didn't have enough time to not sample the sounds big_smile

Lyrics posted - updated the submission.

Thanks! heart

Very brave to record vocals. I’m still working up the courage. Great job !

This is peak WB, and it's kinda cozy too.

Jaskier vibes! Glad you decided to publish vocals. This kind of lofi anti-pop sound reminds me of the soundtrack to the movie "Juno". And while we both need to practice our singing, dude, there's nothing to be shy about here. You have a good foundation to build on! Kudos.

Love the vibe on this man, feels like a very heartfelt and authentic tune. I like the chords/melodic leading & doubling too

I like the tribal/folks feel of this... I kinda have a fascination for it

Delay/reverb on the hanago would have helped it blend/float better, it's an interesting instrument!

And I didn't even notice this was 7:4, makes me want to try!

Thank you for kind words. I think I need to also practice recording my singing big_smile but also also - I think there's a lot of "in my head" - I saw that with skating as well. Sometimes you can do a thing, but get stressed/scared and you do it worse or don't to at all.

Thank you, it was my goal to do something small and personal. Super glad I managed big_smile

Thanks! I think I will revisit hanago later in WB and will definitely try some delay and reverb on it.
Now that you've mentioned tribal/folks feel - I can hear it to. A new look on my piece big_smile
For me all the fun with odd meters is to try to hide them - at least with my WB entries big_smile
