Mr. Jean-Baptiste (le saint)

June 24th is the Québec National patriot day. I did think about what we are, what we should be as a nation.

It is far to be simple... I am pretty proud of lots of things in my little (8 millions people) (huge 1.668 million km²) province.

It was for a long time managed mostly by Catholic Church who did disgusting things especially to the first nations, but to some of the French Canadians too. We had our problems with English imperialism as well. In a sens Catholic church did help Québec to survive as French people. In the 1960's, Quebecers did get mostly rid of the Church, without any blood. For the most of us, especially our parents, religion is a really really tricky subject. And with immigration at the moment, some of those debates that we did think were resolved as a society are back.

As it is today, I see Québec province as the best place to live for me, even with all the little problems here and there.

Anyways, boooooring stuff. All that to say that I tried to write a little something about Québec. I am uploading a first draft tonight as I am going out this week end and I am not sure if I'll be able to work more on it. If I can I'll upload a version with acoustic drums overdubs and might re-work a little bit guitars as this was done fairly quickly...  smile

Have a marvelous week all!

JP.

Damn I just came back home and listened to the track and my vocal track have loads of noises... Meh, sorry about that all. When you rush a track it does what it does.

Cool track this week man. I dont understand the lyrics but the music is nice.  The horns harmonized with the guitar is pretty sweet.  Thanks for the overview on Quebec history too, I definitely did not know any of that.

I've been to Quebec but it was a long time ago and I don't know much at all about its history, so it was interesting for me to read.  I don't think anywhere is perfect, but it certainly can't be any worse than what's going on in America right now.  The track had a cool vibe to it.  Kind of loungey or something in a good way.

Love the vibe here

Love the 3/4 time man. Horns are a nice touch too.

this is unique as hell.  its got an uneasy sort of unnerving sound to it, really draws me to all the different instruments being played.  nice work

Love the up front close vocal sound you do. A little noise in the vocal just lends character smile the waltz-like beat lends gravity and almost sounds like a requiem or funeral march. The horns are very fitting.

djippy's vocals seem to give me that vibe pretty often, I love it.  Great work on this track man.  Horns are awesome!

It is all right that you don't understand... If it feels ok, it is ok smile . About Québec history, most of us don't even know much (Me included). Happy Canada day as well since it was yesterday!

Hope you did like your trip to Québec. The thing is that we are American too in Canada... USA is so diversified that it makes it a great country. If there are more political problems on your side of the border? It seems so.

Thanks! I actually started with the synths for this track. It is again an Android Phone recording for everything, except that I did the guitar and vocals on my computer.

Yes, loads of character there... It is allright, this is not done for the mass anyways but I try to improve my mixes, production side doing those weekly beats, and listening back to the track I was, wow, this is a lot of noise. I have a far to be ideal room (My garage) for recordings. I talk-sing not too loud so I crank the pre-amp, so there is the room noises in. 3/4 6/8 time signature are very fun indeed, I do not tend to go there naturally but did listen to some of those 2 weeks ago so wanted to do one.

Thanks a lot! Trying to record some ideas, it is great that some people here listen to it. Even with the internet, social media technologies and everything it is difficult to show what we do to the world and it is fun to know this is not stuff that I just did for myself.

Again, much appreciated guys, This week song will be difficult to releases as I did not start yet, and I'll be out of town this weekend... Plus this is soccer evening for my big boy tonight.

Bad time management for music this week. lol. It might be a cell phone recording again this week, who knows.

Have an excellent end of week!
