Half-baked for half a year!

By djippy on June 28, 2026 4:55 pm

New toy, so I did go for a track with the new acoustic... And yeah a parlor sized guitar does record really good. But I feel that it is fun to have the extended low end of a dreadnought.

If you are in Canada and maybe one more acoustic guitar, go on the Godin site an pull the trigger. It is a well crafted instrument (in China), there are 3 shapes available and even after Quebec taxes, it is just over 300$

Did record it in mono with my "cheap" large diaphragm neat worker bee, about 30cm (1Ft) in front of the guitar pointing to the end of the neck. Quick delay on the guitar so it sounds wide. (guit L delay track R) A little drum pass afterward, added a dirty synth bass and Voilà!!!

Did see some old friends this Friday evening, it was great.

The new toy!

Not a great week fitness wise, up at about 92kg, did about 3hrs of cardio... I should be able to up this to 5-7 hrs as I was doing at the start of the year, but need to dig a bit more.

The bass is sooooooo cool in contrast to those sweet guitar licks.

man, that bass is relentless!!! this was such a trip, really good!!! nicely done smile

I love this! Gritty and organic in the best ways. Great width on the guitar in the mix, love how things went together.

Great, now I need to convince myself I don’t need a parlor guitar… smile

beautiful new toy! *goes to research what a parlor guitar is* . everything sounds great, but man I can't get over my jealousy of how much I enjoy hearing real drums in their dynamic and varied goodness. love the little drum rolls and rim mixups. and yeah that bass doesn't give a f*. nice work!

Thanks!

I feel that taking the time to bring out the electric bass guitar could have been super cool as well with quite a bit of saturation, but I did that in a rush, kids at home so I did the bass lines on the laptop on the living room instead of locked up in my garage as the girlfriend was not home for a big part of this Sunday.

Yeah, wanted some dirt, didn't take that long to find that patch... then added more saturation on it.

Thanks a lot! I feel that for strumming the bigger sized body shape is probably sounding better, but it really plays good, plus I am not that used to the guitar so I have to learn to gel with it... Guitars are a bit more expensive then german made recorder... wink

But in the end, it ain't THAT bad. And if you already have an acoustic, you are fine, really. It is just that it has been a while since I purchased new toys, it was right after "father's day" that I have seen the discount so I just did go for it!

Yeah, acoustic drums is the shit... I really like those instruments, it is wild, loud, unpredictable and very fun.

I still think that this track could improve quite a bit with a bit more polish, some arrangement and mixing tweaks but it was one of those "speedtrash" that I am happy does exists.

yeah, that parlor records really nicely. my bandmate in forestlike has had an Art & Lutherie dreadnaught for years, i've always liked it.
i think the parlor sounds great hanging out with its musical buddies, drum & synth  smile

Half-baked or not, it would do for a nice little acoustic interlude on a harsher-style (think Slipknot) album.
Here's to the other half of the year!

Sounds fully baked to me! [weed emoji]
That thick wobbly bass and the loose drum timing is such a gnarly support for those roomy guitars. Who needs clicktracks when you've got a rhythm of your own!

The analog bass against the acoustic is a great contrast

Oooh yes love that dark growly bass with the acoustic sound.  Especially on the lead notes. Happy Half-baked i mean half year! tongue \m/
