The Finn

By Disposable Planet on June 15, 2024 5:35 pm

The Color of Television, Neuromancer-inspired album, Track #6 - "The Finn".

This week we meet the cigar-smoking fence the gang contacts to buy some gear from.   The Finn, himself.   Watch as the corrugated metal of his "Metro Holografix" adorned shop dances in the waveforms and hear him lighting and smoking his partagas as his vinyl crackle fills the air with smoke.

He's another seedy character caught in the machinations of a global mystery as Wintermute tries to merge with his sibling.  The Finn is like an old record, but prepared to deal with the shadiest of people.   Some samples form the pads and atmosphere of his shop and some ghastly piano notes echo around him.   An old apache break forms the backbone of his tune as we get a preview of the holograms to come when Peter rolls up to the party later.

Thanks for listening so far!  More to come!

Super dope album, have been listening to it. Love the bendy distorted synth sounds on the background. Nice drums too, love when the heavy snare comes in at 0:50. Are those the apache congas? big_smile

Thanks ddmm64!!  Yes those are the apache congas.   The bendy synth is called drunksax I believe (at least in one of the tracks) and it comes in later in the album on both the Peter Riviera track to partially represent his weird hologram generators and it also makes a brief appearance on Maelcum slightly modified as the Kuang virus unfolding.   Very proud of that instrument it sounds like a broken saxophone/clarinet just honking away through boiling oil or water or something.   Needed to create a jazzy instrument for this part of the album to make way for the shadiness of these seedy characters.   Thanks for listening!

This is a cool one. The slippy bass and bongos really juxtapose well with the scifi arp lead and the break beat staples it together. It's a pretty unique but ultimately cohesive set of sounds.

I've had Neuromancer sitting on my self for over 2 years and have yet to get to it. I need to change that tongue

He may be an eerie creep, but he's funky.

Thanks ENCOWELL - that was pretty much the idea behind the album, to make some drumnbass/jungle that combined sounds you wouldn’t think would work together and try to make them complement each other.  There is some chiptune influence on other tracks especially that blends with the breaks and of course some demosceney PWM action as well.   Thanks for listening and by all means crack open that copy of Neuromancer it’s a trip

Thanks Devieus for being here week after week and hearing the album come together a track at a time!   Appreciate it!
