Higgs Massive

By Disposable Planet on February 13, 2026 5:09 pm

Another week, another LSDJ tune!  This week marks the halfway point on the concept album.  5 tracks down, 5 to go.   In keeping with the elementary particle theme, this week is the Higgs Boson, also known colloquially as "The God Particle", which was discovered at the CERN Large Hadron Collider last decade!   The Higgs Boson links to other particles and has to do with the Higgs Field, which is what gives particles their mass -  hence the cheeky title, which also fits because this is a drumnbass tune.

I don't set out to incoporate other genres and musical styles into my music before I start making a tune.   Usually that kind of thing just happens as I'm making it.   This tune is a drumnbass tune with a heavy flamenco influence in the lead melody parts.   I used to play Spanish classical guitar for many years and have listened to a lot of classical guitarists and flamenco artists over my life so I guess it just naturally found its way into this.   Also the progression is kind of flamenco inspired as well, though I just wanted something descending in a minor key, at first.

There's a grimy bass at the intro and a drone that plays some harmonies and chords to create a dark introduction.   Then the melody kicks in.   You can hear those fast note runs associated with flamenco guitar especially in the second melody and solo.  The bass gets a little amped up after a while in a Squarepushery fashion.   There are some stops and starts and there is even a fake echo section later in the song after some staccato arps.   Happy with how this one came out - it captures the implied heaviness of the Higgs Particle.

Thanks, as always, for listening!

did not expect to hear LSDJ flamenco rnb today but here we are. This is incredible!

Great as always, dude! I'm glad we're friends, and that we get to do WB and all this other awesome stuff together this year! heart

The scope of this track is huge!
You fit a lot in there
Man, everyone's LSDJ work this week is sending me back to the hyperbolic time chamber to train up.

Statement of intent on this one.

It comes in hard and sounds incredible

I am blown away by this. It could be on a Megaman soundtrack!

Definitely a song with some heft.

Thanks.  No one was more surprised by the randomness of the flamenco parts than me

Thank you that’s quite the compliment

Thank you

Gah, this is so good! Love the genre fusion. The descending bassline+drone really emphasizes the heaviness, especially when you combine it with the fast/chaotic sections. Thanks for posting the production notes on this smile

Okay, the clicks on the left with that quick delay at the very beginning completely matched my office acoustics and I had to figure out what my co-workers were doing. Geez! I am loving the LSDJ kick you're on - such great sound and high energy. I can't wait to hear how the album takes shape. Each track so far has enough going on that it's like getting 5 tracks in one, each one a mini-album in itself.

Thanks it was fun to make something in a minor key given all the major/lydian stuff I’ve been doing

Those clicks are actually a mistake and will be removed before I master and polish this for the album.  For some reason I had the bass hard panning left and right for a tic each before going to the center.  My bad!   Thanks for listening!  The album is shaping up.  This week - an antimatter particle!

Save them before you remove them - it's a really cool effect!

w0ah that build up fill at :43 was rad!  1min in and the melody already feels epic! The percussive elements to the drums all around are awesome.  Love how you use the stereo field, those lil fills feel like they're spinning around my head. Well done!

I will.  When I'm done with the 10 WeeklyBeats for the album I will save a separate version of the .sav file and then duplicate it so I can polish everything up and correct any errors/make any last minute changes.

thank you!  the fills are simple.   It's a noise instrument with an envelope that goes from quiet to loud with a table that alternates between OLR and Oxx every three ticks to create a series of stuttering noise risers.
