Skalodica

I don't know what it is, but live recordings just rub me the wrong way somehow. It could be stage fright borne by my introvert nature, which means I'll be doing it a lot more this year to get over it.

I did make a new drum set out of some cardboard boxes and an empty flask; one of the boxes has a plastic bag strung over it to sound more like a drum, then all I have to do is strike it with chopsticks. It's like an actual drum kit, just very small, and consequently quite quiet for a drum kit, or in other words a reasonable volume.

So naturally my first act was to make ska, something I already did back in 2012, just live now and arguably worse. I guess I can do it again next week in a DAW if my other plan doesn't pan out.

This reminds me of something I’d hear as a hidden track on a Les Claypool or John 5 album. Fun song overall!

I like this... fun and refreshing.

Inspired use of the equipment. Very tight.

much better than heavy metal. like it.

I like the story behind the home-made drum kit.  It sounds excellent.  I might have to try out some cardboard box percussion myself.  Fun song.  It has a really nice energy.

I think it's the flask hit that makes it really fun! Assuming that bright chime sound must be the flask. Very inventive and inspiring to hear made instruments.

I can see that a bit, although neither do ska to my knowledge.

Let's not push it.

Honestly, I was reminded of you when I listened back to it. This, to me, seems very much like your style.
Now go and hit those boxes like they deserve it, but take your time finding the right box and spot, because all boxes sound different, you have to find the box that's right for you.

Yea, it's a metal water bottle type flask. I can't exactly make crashes and cymbals out of what I have, but I have stuff no other drum kit has, like glass bottles, plastic bottles and of course metal bottles.

Cool Sound! The mix of melodica and uke is very nice.

This made me picture a cardboard train going around in my head, with the steam coming out in time with the melodica, nice lighthearted and sweet track big_smile

It's so nice, I did it twice; or rather it's my second time.

It certainly has that quality to it.

This should be in a future Wes Anderson flick smile  Nice work!

Here's to hoping.

The flask is so obnoxious but in a most delightful way.  Like a rogue triangle player trying to get in on the action.

I'll tell him to settle down next time.

Someone had to do it.

i personally find live recordings like this way more enjoyable and charming than computer/midi music that's fixed to a grid. this is so lively, warm and quirky

It's a matter of opinion for sure, of course it'll be better if it's either all in sync, or none of it is.
