Fundamentals of Power

By Devieus on January 2, 2024 12:00 am

First submission of the year and I hope it's a good start

For those who know me, because after doing this since 2012, there're some that do: hiya~

For those that don't, my name is Ebrit, but it's not always Ebrit, it rarely is
We/I are/am a system, that is, someone with multiple personalities, of 5 (for now) and every week we will sign off with the name of whoever's fronting at the time, perhaps tell a little about the production of the song, and maybe a little something that happened in the week
so without further ado

We decided this year to do something with electric guitar, we had this thing for a while now, but last year on our birthday we obtained an amp, so now we can actually use it and record with it
So that's what we'll do, as many weeks as possible, and preferably with chiptune accompaniment because we love chip metal
This week, the first one, is taking it slow and simple, using the guitar is sort of a bass over a simple arpeggio with nice drum patterns and a pretty nice progression, so a very fundamental sort of deal
Maybe next week it'll be more involved, but there's many, many weeks left ahead so there's no rush

This is a neat new direction, and a fun track in its own right too! Great to hear more of your sound in 2024. Here’s to another year of WB!

This track brought a smile to my face. Love that guitar!!

Glad to see you again this year! The amp sounds good, I want more of it. heart

welcome back! nice full guitar tone, sits nicely under the squarewave arps. what amp did you get, and are you running any pedals for distortion/tone/effects stuff?

It's great to see you back in 2024!

New type of track away from the pure generative music. The mix of electronic arp and organic guitar is a good choice! I am curious to hear what other tracks you'll share with us in the future!

welcome to 2024, more guitar for sure.

Great to have you here for 2024 again! Excited to see where the chip metal journey goes

Digging this new direction! Excited to see where it goes. Welcome back, wishing you a beatiful year.

More guitars!

brilliant tone on the guitar, perfect match for the chipchoonz! heart

love the tune and the year of the guitar!

Hell yeah, looking forward to hearing more guitar from you all this year and definitely looking forward to the upcoming chip metal! \../,

WB to WB; now bring on the chip metal!  I'm likely to dig anything with a pulse (wave)

Nice track. I like the drumming

Hear hear. WeeklyBeats is a great testing ground for new ideas.

Thank you, it loves you too.

You bet. Glad you could make it back as well.

It's a Blackstar ID:Core V3, which comes with its built-in distortion and effects. No pedals (yet).

Good to see you here, we've been keeping track of your stuff last year.

Last time wasn't exactly generative, but procedurally generated compositions. We may still use that at some point, either as an escape button, or for when we somehow run out of creative juice. We can just remove one of the tracks with our own, and jostle some sections as we please.

Forever more guitars.

Forever and again! Maybe someday we'll reach your greatness. Probably not this year though.

Chip metal is best metal, and best chip.

Some say it's the year of the dragon, that best be a brand of guitar.

Your stuff so good, we'll definitely do our best.

Pulse wave is best wave, for chiptune and metal.

Thanks, we'll be working on that as well, and maybe there's room for the old generator in the process.

Awesome! This guitar and drum with the chiptuney arp is a really cool combo. Love that you did it in LMMS, haven't used it much but it looks pretty impressive considering it's free and open source.

> Maybe next week it'll be more involved, but there's many, many weeks left ahead so there's no rush

This is a great philosophy for WB (and art/music making in general), try what you can and take things one day/week at a time, there is no rush.

+1 for making this track in LMMS, does it have a swing feature now? That was the one thing I wished it had when I last looked at it

This is pretty siiiiiiick

howdy folks!  a powerful start to 2024!

It's really not that impressive when compared to, say, FL, but it's got some neat things if you know how to use them.

It's probably a good mindset for just about everything. Plan long-term, execute stepwise. It's just more obvious here.

I don't think it has a swing feature (yet), though you can try to automate the tempo to simulate one.

Happy new year. A powerful start is a good start, just as long as it doesn't lead to a burn.

Happy new year to the DESLR collective! Very nice vibes and my untrained ear is wondering if power chords were a fundamental part of this power song smile Definitely makes me think of someone having a great time jamming in their bedroom; very freeing and very joyful.

I dig the idea of letting the guitar function as a bass, it totally works here.

Welcome back! Love this, looking forward to the next one

Welcome again and a nice first song! I look forward to hearing your new music journey in guitar smile

That guitar sounds great! Excellent job recording/mixing with that vibrantly arping synth! I am interested to learn how your generative music project is progressing. Happy 2024!

Thank you so much.

They were and they weren't, but they came forth and never left, so it leaned on that.
And it definitely did exactly that making this.

That low E string goes pretty low if you consider a standard staff, so why not. Just needs to balance with the treble.

The next one is definitely a step up from this, you'll enjoy it.

Recording goes through USB from the amp to PC, so it's as raw as it gets. Mixing is a big iffy though, just moving the slider in Audacity until it's balanced.

Haven't really touched the generator much. It should still work and there are ideas that would fit well, but it'll be mostly a supportive role this year, hopefully.

Happy new year to you too.

Love this guitar sounds. I definitely feel the power.

Happy new year! Guitar sounds good with the rocksteady beat and pulsing arp.  A long ways to go yais but a good start for sure. smile

This is a cool trip! I like tracks that carry you along

Even if our hands fail, the clock chip still works as intended.

We'll try to make the ride as smooth as possible.

Off to a damned good start! Loving the guitar riffs and the drum line!

excited to hear guitar from you!  great stuff!  i love chip + electric guitar combo

One of my goals for this year was to get really good at understanding how to combine chiptune and orchestra/strings. Maybe we should collaborate at some point and get some chiptune/guitars/orchestra thing going and make it epic!

Great to see y'all again, looking forward to more this year and off to a great start!

hmu if you need some guitar, or some chip, or some combination of that
we should collab

Let's see how long we'll last doing this, probably quite a while seeing as we did the same thing with a ukulele

- Ebrit

Yeah, really digging the distorted guitar vs chip tone.  Not a combo you hear often but it goes together great.

Really a shame it's not around more, it's our holy duty to fix that

Indeed they do, and they should do so again.

Hello my old new friend!  Good to hear your music again and you started the year with a banger! Love to hear the guitar with the chiptune arps.  Hope to hear more in this style but don't leave the birds behind completely!
