Ascend into madness

By Devieus on January 20, 2018 12:20 am

Sometimes madness isn't something you suffer, it's something you achieve.

This week I returned to LMMS with a connection to my Yamaha PSR-550 keyboard. LMMS is interesting in that it can automate the dumbest things, like signature, or the type of arpeggio or stack (or both) that plays when holding a key (in case you wanted to play every single chord known to man in the span of a single bar). In this case it's the pitch of a track that you'll hear at the end of the song; as well as a few other things like tempo, this knob in the reverb FX of the arp, and an automation LFO (because automating an automation is totally okay).

For comparison, the only other DAW I have is Magix Music Maker and it only automates the most rudimentary stuff. I will be using that sometime in the future because I should.

If this is madness you've managed to somehow make it sound delightfully cheerful.  Sign me up!

Great melodies and fx! Really communicates the emotion of the trazk heart

I can pencil you in 5 pm standard Jupiter time.

Thanks. I like the idea of a reverb that gets stronger over time, it goes well with the linear tempo increase.

Thanks, I make them myself.

Sorry, I've got an appointment with my shrink.

There's an episode of Twilight Zone where a guy thinks he's in Heaven but turns out he's really in Hell. This track reminds me of that -- and I like it a lot.

I've heard of its existence, but never seen it myself. I think it's because of the minor chords, which creates a sort of unresolvable tension.

square is a good job

Thanks, it is awesome.

Interesting mood. This is how madness could sound. I imagine Lovecraftian ascending of a mind when listening to this. Also, final modulations are pleasant to hear.

Gotta have that final push, otherwise you won't truly have achieved madness.

really love the melodies in this one.  great work!

As previously stated this is a great melody. I would hardly call it madness though. It seems you have taken the large amount of flexibility available to you through automation and achieved quite a musical result. Well done.

Everyone experiences madness in their own way, to some this song resonates well enough with it. As for the automation, I like to explore the things you can do with it because there is so many things that can be automated (I think the only thing that cannot be automated is the connections themselves).

Beautiful chord progression and waltz like rhythm really sets it apart. It has a very sinister, dark under current beneath the cheery veneer. Like the more abstract space jam synth that comes in the second half. Very well done.

Digging that filter sweep!  Also very nice support for that melody--there's a very haunting thing going on here...that seems to lead to an unhinged carnival. Well done!

Waltz is always better suited as a 4/4 signature, the rest are just mad I tells ya!
