Suspension around the Corner

By destoo on January 24, 2020 5:34 am

Again, I don't feel like I have a story to tell. I'm just discovering some theories and techniques.

I somewhat used a verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus pattern and started using labels, colors and auto names in FL Studio.
Keeping it simple, Rock Band setup style (Drums, Bass, Guitar and Voice.. I think my voice is still in progress)
Finally found how to transpose, find chords and stuff.
And I also removed some blanks using audacity and normalized the track.
Did it help? My cheap headset couldn't let me know...

Next week I'll play with the mixer and enveloppes.

Cool haunting harmony in the pad.  You may want to check the timing on a few of the melodic parts...but this is a good start!

I actually keyed those in with a midi keyboard and tried to drag them around but they wouldn't snap back to the regular bars.  It must have changed the time signature of the sample or something?
Still learning how this works.  Thanks!

Admittedly I'm not that familiar with FLStudio--I tend to use Ableton for MIDI and multitracking.  It hadn't sounded to me like a time signature change, but instead like a few notes off the grid just a bit too far.  (A little off the grid is great--there are humanizer plugins that add a random amount of MIDI delay for "feel," which can work to keep things from getting too mechanical.  But a bit too much off the grid for the tempo, and it just sounds like late or early notes.)

Sounds good! I like the structure of the track, and the instruments all come through nicely in the mix smile

Pretty tense atmosphere, maybe you can add some effects to it.
