It's really nice outside! Looks like Punxsutawney Phil called it? No more "snow" songs for this year I think. But today I started out with a 4-bar loop I liked, tried to create a B-section out of various random loops and personal M8 patches I had lying around in this song file.. and uh, yeah, kinda stopped there because it got too late. Composed on the M8, all sounds except the drums are from the M8 synth engines.

Ooh, straight from the first sound I was like "Future Sound Of London!"

This sounds retro-futuristic and moody, the sonar-like squeal composes great with the Juno-like synths.

I like how it manages to sound good while being so sparse. That's something I struggle to achieve myself.

woah you know, I totally forgot about FSOL but I listened to one or two of their albums a lot back in the day, definitely should  revisit them. And yeah, even if I sometimes would like an more elbow room, at the end of the day the 8-track limitation of the M8 is a blessing when it comes to just finishing tracks!

The FSOL comparision is apt.  Also the bass starting at 01:28 is magnificent—and so is the full-mix groove it evolves into by 2:14

This is so fun. I know the first three tracks were called snow, but the synths in this sound so warm. And when the full hihats+snare+kick come in, it just gets everything moving forward so smoothly. Like, somehow chill (because of how sparse the synths are) but also with a sense of urgency (from the percussion). Great job here, I'd totally blast this tune out loud in an underground cave rave.

Love this, nicely done!

There's always December. This sounds nice.

thank you! I'm fond of that bass patch, used it in a few songs. It's maybe the first patch I ever made for the M8, waiting for the first batch, on headless. Just randomly moving parameters around on FMsynth since I didn't know what I was doing.

Haha, thank you! I'd pick something more high energy for a cave rave tho, but maybe it's just me big_smile

Truth. It'll be dark times, expect melancholy tracks (if I can keep this up by then, fingers crossed).

Thanks for mentioning the drums! I actually like them too. Kind of a basic beat out of some Alesis samples but the I think the hihats came out nice. Sometimes the way the M8 encourages you to put a lot of drums in one track (where they cut each other off) works well.
