Weeklybeats is a 52 week long music project in which artists compose and publicly release 1 song a week for the entire year.
Starting January 1st 2024 GMT each participant will have one week to upload one finished composition. Any style of music or selection of instruments are welcomed and encouraged.

Started with a deep fried bassline courtesy of the casio/PD macrosyn oscillator. Added some distorted beats from my stash of OPL3/blastbeats samples. Sprinkled some dissonant M8 FM pads. Rendered with a few minutes to spare.

OPL3 gang represent! But hey, my OPL3 doesn't sound like that. Is the distortion coming straight from BlastBeats/OPL3 or did you apply it in post?

Oh, definitely post. OPL3 by itself is rather thin most of the time! especially the GM type presets used in games.
By the way, I do have a sample pack of OPL3 sounds I posted on M8 discord, and there's also an earlier version on the polyend tracker one. They were selected specifically as weirder/glitchier/heavier sounds, but even then they do benefit from filtering/distortion/repitching to sound more interesting.
This is dope, that grimy bass cutting through at 0:51 sounds so good.
Ooof, the bass in the second half is so dirty, full stank face haha. The first half has a much lighter, spacious feel so the shift is so effective.
