A Line You Have to Walk

By davelacorneille on February 22, 2026 11:54 pm

We rarely make one big wrong choice.
We make a small compromise. Then another.

We tell ourselves it’s nothing, that it will pass.
But every decision draws a line we’ll have to walk later.

And one day, we realize we didn’t get lost all at once —
we abandoned ourselves slowly.

I'll be honest - I rarely use a HPF filter on most of my synth patches. I feel some sense of obligation to do so sometimes, like I feel like I should, but I just don't know how to make cool sounds that use it.

And then I hear things like this, and I get it! Nice job. Like your note, too. Important to watch and catch yourself before you drift too far!

I love the vocals on this, did you make them?

Thanks! I know exactly what you mean. I used to think of the HPF mostly as a mixing tool, but sometimes it becomes part of the sound design itself. In this track, removing some of that low-end actually helped the other elements breathe and gave the bass more room to do its thing.

And thanks for the note about the description. It's surprisingly easy to keep walking down a path long after you've forgotten why you started. Glad that part resonated too.

Thanks! The vocals in this track are actually a Loopcloud sample.

One of my goals with this WeeklyBeat challenge is to learn a lot of new things, and creating my own vocals is one of them. I don't have much interest in singing myself, so in my last submission I started experimenting with Synth V from Dreamtonics to create my own lyrics and vocal melodies.

I can tell you it's a lot harder than it looks! 😄 I'm still very much in the learning phase, but it's been a fun challenge so far.
