Night Shift

By DataJanitor on February 1, 2026 3:53 pm

Another week where I started a track and struggled with it and abandoned it three days before the deadline and started something new.
This one ended up being a way different sound than I started out with, all abstract horror vibes and suddenly I tried adding a bassline and everything shifted and it came out nothing like I intended.

Happy accidents, I guess.

Here's Night Shift. Kinda imagine a silhouette of two people swing dancing to this one.

haha, I could hear the track's vibe pivot in real time, straight out the intro, as that bassline comes in. V nice, into it! Very interesting how the darker sound palette plays against major chord-heavy harmony.

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!

Did work on the "graveyard" shift in a past life...

I have good memories, but never again, and it didn't feel at all the way this track sounds.

My favourite moment was at the end of the shift when going back home being backward to everybody that were "stressing out", going fast to their job on the Metro.

Fun listen.

Absolutely love that this track went in a completely different direction than the expected. It’s like going into the creepy basement and you know something’s down there - except you go in the next room and they’re all doing the Monster Mash. And you join in.

And I’m smiling, thinking that, sometimes things aren’t as scary as they seem heart

From ambient horror to Dub-y doowap is a new one on me, prerrt fun stuff

Thank you! I spent a good part of my 20's being a night shift person... definitely feel you on the coming home while everyone else is heading in...
