You & Me (Two Versions)

By danju on October 20, 2024 9:25 pm

Haven't been here for awhile since I haven't been able to finish anything, but this week I wrote a song that I really want to perfect.

I'm in between two different versions here so I just uploaded both (with a quick little transition in between to put some space in between) But I'm torn on which one to go with haha

I was thinking of maybe adding a bridge or more instrumental in the middle of it later on.

Looking forward to feedback on anything in it (writing, performance, mixing, etc)!

Lyrics:

Singing bird, oh won’t you stay
Don’t dream of home so far away
I’ll be by your side
Right now
And always

When you move, a dream you make
And On and on things start to change
But after all this time
You’ll find
That it’s always you and me

In your wake, a song you sang
It takes my heart, now yours to claim
Through the end of time
You’ll find
That it’s always you and me

Good to see you again! Beautiful piano playing and beautiful singing. I missed your tracks man!

I always liked the moods you bring with your tracks.

I like the Vocals production a lot. Nice timbre, a couple little backs here and there, agressive autotuning done with good taste.

This track feels a bit like two in one with the break at 2 mins. I don't know if transition could be smoother, but you are on something for sure.

well this was a pleasant surprise!
i really like both versions. i think i prefer the vocal without the autotune, but that's just kind of a preference thing. it really works either way. there were some nice subtle background sounds in the mix for part 2 that are nice additions.

lovely song. also, i asked emily if she knew danju and she was excited to hear that you were back with a new song  smile

Lovely track(s).  I think I actually like both for different reasons.  I really like the vocals on the first version... they were actually arresting... like I had a full on "oh damn... ok... ok..." moment when they came in... like...

But I also prefer the accompaniment on the second version... the brief little organ bit at the beginning was a bit of a tease, like I think a Hammond would be great accompaniment for this track (might be a little too churchy though)... but the really reverby plucky sounding e-piano (maybe?) also sounds super dope.  I greatly prefer the vocal processing on the first version. I think the second is a little heavy handed and masks the beauty in the tone of the vocals, but as JWH mentioned, that's kind of a taste thing.  I really love what you did right around 0:27-0:33.  The compression is great, and the subtle reverby stabs draw attention to of the clarity of the tone in the vocals... and don't at all mask them. For me, a track like this calls for a very light touch, so the shear beauty of the vocals can melt peoples hearts and make them weak in the knees.

Absolutely lovely song, VERY well done.  (ღ˘⌣˘ღ)

Appreciate it! Yeah the transition was just thrown in there but maybe I can use elements in that transition in actual parts of the song

Appreciate it and thank you for the feedback! I'm also a fan of the second arrangment's instrumental. Might do a swap of the first's vocals with the second's instrumentals

Thanks man! Looking forward to hearing more of your stuff as well

love it and I'm so glad to hear you with a new song! heart heart heart

love the vocals and heartfelt performance, love the lyrics, even tho I would say they are extra cheezy.

I think that just like you said, some kinda bridge could be good between the second and the third repetition of the verse, just for variety. I really like the transition with organ. it reminds me of your old series from 2022 that I have listened to many times. you have an amazing sound, would be cool if you leaned into this sound more to see what comes out.

upon second listen I think the piano in the first part doesn't have such a nice tone, like it has a lowpass filter on it or some kinda mp3 low quality filter or something, but is more appropriate in terms of where you play in a lower octave. the second piano sounds much nicer in my view, but doesn't hit as strong. I think the first one complements your voice better because it sits underneath, and when you play low like this, it feels more calm which I think benefits the song. however the backing vocals in the second part are very cool.

oh so nice to hear you again danju!

both versions are so great - glad you included both!

One vote for the first version!

The acoustic piano has a certain earnest gentleness that I prefer over the other version. Additionally, I prefer the subtler (if any?) pitch correction in the first version. I feel like the aggressive autotune takes away from the wonderfully nuanced singing.

lovely chord progression and vocal melody that shines on it's own.  mayhaps a mix of both arrangements.  The bass in the second is so soothing smile  well done!
