Wishful Thinking - Alabama Lament

By Daisy on August 16, 2022 9:28 am

I have an old friend I have known since the late 1980's. She is one of these people that despite the amount of time that elapses between our phone calls, it is like we just talked yesterday. Together we home-schooled our children, formed cub-scout dens, and girl scout troops. We are very different people, and others (who know both of us) have remarked that it is strange that we are still friends.  I think we both feel younger than we really are.
This song describes my friend's unrequited love, and the frustration that brings.  She is caught up in loving a man from her distant past, who doesn't return her devotion-- who uses her devotion to control her and leaves her bread crumbs that someday something might happen. The result is that she is frozen in time, and profoundly unhappy. Much of our conversations lately have been me acting as a sounding board, gently advising her to RUN.  It is a long-distance relationship, over the internet-which is a regiment of red flags-but the heart wants what the heart wants.
I can truly understand this.
It begins with plaintive frustration, and disgust/anger with the guy, and unfortunately herself. Then a wistful melody on cello characterizing longing. Then there is blurry dance theme as a lens to the desired future. She is in an ongoing loop of despair.  I wrote this for her, to give her some expression and maybe a compass.
She will find her way.

Hope you help your friend find happiness!

I hope she comes out on top, everyone deserves love

I like how you use to create a story with your instruments and how original the arrangement is. What tools do you use to make these tracks? Are some of these instruments live recordings?
