Tragic Anticipation--This is Not a Drill

By Daisy on June 7, 2022 10:47 am

I began with a vague idea.
I chose one of the many synthesizers offered to me on Musescore to fully explore what it could do.
I chose the Rain Synth-- I was intrigued with the decay of the longer notes.
I chose my favorite key-- E Major-- the BRIGHTEST of the Major keys--  I even started out with the E Major Scale--scales being so powerful.
Then ominously, the C# appeared. Knocking-pleading--almost sobbing.
This lead to a modulation to C# minor (the relative of E Major).
I still didn't know what this was about.
A friend who has known me for years named it Tragic Anticipation-- and she was right--
Then I heard an historian say: This is not a drill.
The mass shootings and the threats to our Democracy are in front of mind for me.
The congressional hearings on sedition and treason are beginning this week.
However, this piece resolves to E Major.
We in this country are E Major!
Buck up! Vote!.
We can save this Democracy! Not with violence but with Voice!

it still somehow feels like it resolves in the minor key, perhaps it needs more major key sections, much like the US could do with some
