Scherzo for a Rat

By Daisy on March 17, 2024 9:07 pm

I am Grandma to a rat name Scherzo.  Scherzo is a dance in 2/4 time but also one of my favorite Grand-rats.  Scherzo-rat is a  mischievous yet loving, male rat that gets ideas. I call him my Scherzy-Beast.  A Scherzo dance, is jumpy with a dark quality to it--Merry Prankster--joker.  Beethoven used a Scherzo as the dance movement in the 9th symphony instead of the traditional minuet in 3/4 time.  I picture the opening of this piece's slow half notes as Scherzy-Beast awakens and surveys his realm.  Then he gets busy! He jumps around dragging things he finds, hiding-- then jumping out to scare you.  He is a laughing rat-- he giggles when you rub his tummy!

he giggles when you rub his tummy? = delight

Lovely! Love the debussyesque piano passages and cello lines.

Nitpick: think about the loudness of your uploads. This is very quiet at -25 LUFS. Importantly, the peaks don't go above -7.5 dBFS so you can easily bump loudness by 7 LUFS by just normalizing the file before uploading. But the opening and closing violin could be bumped in volume, it's still much quieter than the rest of the piece.

Excellent phrygian chords! nice instruments too - can't wait til you start capturing yourself on the violin smile
