Repairing My Sewing Machine

By Daisy on July 14, 2024 4:35 pm

I come from a long line of Needlewomen.  We are all sew, quilt, knit, crochet, tat lace etc.   I have spent the last week getting Stitchy (1977 Sears Kenmore) ready for an unusual project called a Jelly roll rug.  A long time sewing buddy of mine, sent me the tutorial and I was hooked.  I have never made anything remotely like a this rug.  I mostly make and mend clothing, and hem pants. This rug, seems to be opening the door for me to maybe become somewhat of a fabric artist.  Hmmm We'll see.
Oiling up Stitchy is a PROJECT.  It involves taking off the lid and finding all the moving parts and making sure the belts are working.  I do not relish doing this.  It is a bit of a panic as I worry that once I take a part off and carefully put the screws in a bowl something or someone will knock it over .... Yes this happens.  Dog tails can some how find their way to site of this "surgery."

This piece is in D Harmonic minor giving that kind of "Son of the Plains" Romani-life feel--with a lot of pizzicato strings, various melodic element's rhythms doubled and halved.  It gives the feeling the sewing machine running and panicking a bit as I make my way through every little thing. Some of the anxiety is mine!

Oh, I love the anxiety in this piece. THE busyness of the music perfectly expresses my feel about seeing machines - so much going on.  I like sewing machines, I like to
sew, but they make me anxious (particularly electric ones). Which is my my machine of choice is a 1920 Singer treadle machine LOL

what a fantastic and evocative piece, and that rug is BEAUTIFUL.
long may Stitchy run  heart

You really captured some anxiety and stress in this song. Very cool! And it does feel similar to when my sewing machine tries to get through too thick fabric and suddenly starts sprinting.. With the thread becoming all jumbled up and stuck in the machine.
