Hi all, excited for week 2! I've surprised myself by uploading days before the deadline - we'll see if I drive myself crazy in the next 48 hours...

This week's submission is an old idea that was collecting dust, originally titled "Jam: Fast Strummy Guitars" that I always liked but didn't know what to do with. It's a lot crunchier(?) and high-energy than I usually go for. Probably some Strokes DNA in here. The drums also came first which was weird for me. They used to be (even more) muted and muddy which I loved, but made it hard to actually hear them so I compromised. I still leaned into fuzzy/muddy sounds, including running vocals through a guitar amp in Logic. Words are a lot about vulnerability as it pertains to music, a reminder to myself to just make stuff and (try to) avoid chasing a perfection that doesn't exist.

**Lyrics**

Fire on the outside, boiling within
Admiring what you can’t hide, hungry to win
I’m trying to wear this heart on my sleeve
But dying won’t change the way that you grieve
You forget…

Liar, you could never show what you got
Stay quiet forever, under your rock
For every inch you make, could be a mile
Working your way down road, will be a while

You unfold
Every crease you made still shows
As you open to reform,
inch closer to the door
If you forget…

You swore this wouldn’t happen, you run from the sound
Conspire, deliver, fill hollowed grounds
It’s not now or never, but never arrives
I’m trying to be better, it may take some time

To unfold
Every piece laid out in rows
As you lay yourself bare
The fire you wear

If you forget
How before all that you kept
Could never see the light of day
Now get out of your way

NICE chord progression! Catchy melody too, and I'm liking the warm fuzzy tone you honed in on. Awesome work on this one!

Nice lo-fi bedroom pop!

Surprisingly good sound once I turn up the volume haha. Very cool progression and drums, it drives the music forward in a cool way. Voice sounds great! Super cool vocal harmonies too! It has great cassette-tape-found-in-the-rain vibes. This track would absolutely make me wanna go to the live show just sayin

Excellent songwriting(the sound feels muted, but it kinda works in a nostalgic way, too) heart

Digging this one.

Vocal sound fits the vibe of the song so perfectly.  Great feel all around

I love what you did with the vocals, backing vocals like that are really tying it all together. Tasty guitar too.

This is great! Makes me wanna get in an old car and pop in a cassette tape and cruise around the beach. The vocal effect fits so well and still allows for us to hear the lyrics clearly. well done!

Some serious singer-songwriter chops going on here. The chorus almost reminds me of early Arctic Monkeys tunes.

Thanks! Volume is very much a mystery to me >.<. Wondered if the folkier sounding harmonies were a weird fit in this style, so I appreciate the comment.

Thanks! Yeah I didn't quite nail the balance I heard in my head, but definitely wanted a muted sound - lots to learn from this one.

That's very kind! I didn't make the connection until your comment, but I can hear similarities for sure and dig early AM.

I love that kind of downpicky strumming. Definitely hear the Strokes thing, I played their debut album daily for months.

I like the melody and the sound!

Love the chords, love the overall tone and fuzz. Definitely giving very cozy nostalgia / beach night vibes. Excited for the next one!

This is like listening to an old tape (good thing!). But makes we want to listen to the hi fi mix now!

Love it!! Catchy and relatable heart

"now get out of your own way". heart

this is a gorgeous track!

Did not expect to enjoy this track as much as I did!! I am usually not into singing but the production, the chord progression and the vocals really won me over. The vibe is almost cinematic, I can totally see somebody driving at night, blasting your tune on the radio. Thank you for the music !

Man nice one! love the work you have put to tie together the song with those vocal. Love the solid bass line too

Haha I appreciate that. I made a copy of the Logic file to tinker with and see what that might be like, I think I prefer hiding behind the fuzz on this one haha.

That's so kind, thank you! That's a solid confidence booster for me.

Thank you! I was worried the bass line was too buried and thought it was an important part, so I feel seen.
