Morning Dew

Happy week 15! This week’s submission is a re-recorded and arranged song I wrote some years ago. Recording setup was a bit weird this week due to logistics/time - acoustic and vocals were done together through the same SM57 mic, where I’d normally have a separate mic for each. A byproduct of this is occasional weird breathing sounds and such left in, sorry >.>. I also find myself wanting to put slide guitar in everything recently, despite being pretty mediocre at it. Maybe this is how I can improve.

Anyway, I'll share that this is a song written after a loss.

If I was even half as good at slide guitar as you've got in this song I'd wanna put it in everything too, this is beautiful. The build at the end with the refrain and backing vocals really makes for a lovely moment, just great.

gorgeous version of a tender song. this really hit me in the feels.

and yeah, i think the slide playing sounds great. you are so good with melodies and that comes through in your guitar playing as well. as usual your harmonies are so tastfully placed and support/ elevate the main vocal.

it may not be a recent loss, but i'm sure revisiting the song might have brought some things up. sending some love your way this week.   heart

Haha but this is Week 16 big_smile

The song is great as is, the recording this way makes it feel like a live performance, and thus very intimate, genuine, unedited. This is capturing the immediacy of lofi anti-folk without the pretentious parts of that. I like it a lot.

And the composition is very good as well, this is release-worthy!

Gorgeous song, you're WBs are sooo good. Beautiful melody and playing. The slide guitar sounds great! (I admit I'd put slide guitar on everything if I knew how to play). Sorry to hear about your loss.

It's beautiful. And that outro was especially powerful. heart

Wow this is so beautiful. Fantastic work, love the vocal layering. The subtle reverb on them is so good.

I really like the subtle differences in the guitar doubles, adds a lovely bit of movement.  It's funny that you mention you feel like you slide playing is "mediocre" because I actually noted how well placed it was in the track on the first listen through.  I think it sounds quite nice in this track.  Also I really like the stereo width on the vocals, creates a nice contrast between the sections, and captures a nice sense of growing energy and keeps pace up as you build to the final chorus.  Lovely track.

so gooooood! Favorited. The background guitar that starts in the second verse *chefs kiss* great build at the end as well.

oh this is just such a beautiful tribute
really loving the slide guitar stuff = dreamy

Awww shucks, thank you. Sorry for being a bit self-deprecating, I think my self-described mediocrity is my frustration with how many takes I have to do to write a line I like, play it well enough, and then double-track it. Comments like yours make that process feel worth doing smile

Thank you! Will keep sliding and working on it smile Appreciate the love, definitely some catharsis from recording and sharing this one.

Indeed lol don't know how I got that wrong haha. Thanks so much! This time I was able to keep (almost) every track as a single recording, something I should aspire to do more. Your words are so kind smile

Thanks so much! I'm glad, always fighting the temptation to crank the reverb.

I'm so glad you liked it, thank you smile I finally came up with a guitar part I liked and it took a while to double it well enough. Some earlier takes were more different than similar lol it sounded pretty crazy

Don't worry too much about the setup, the raw performance is always underappreciated, like, criminally so.
It's just so comfy, like being there together.
