All Unsaid

Happy Week 48 folks! Away from home for the holiday so the recording setup was pretty wonky. Definitely felt easier to lean into a lo-fi sound.

Short and simple one this week, the guitar part has been a noodle for a couple of weeks, as it often goes. Everything else was written/recorded pretty quickly Thanksgiving evening. Recording made me realize this is quite a finger/thumb-killer of a tune, or at least, it was after a few takes. Main guitar + vocals into one microphone, two takes of this panned mostly to either side. Then 2 other guitar tracks that come in at the 2nd and 3rd verse.

One of those songs that with parts that sound like lots of other songs to me, some I’ve figured out are Try Again by Big Star, Ocean by Fruit Bats, and It Was Enough by Blind Pilot.

Neat to get your insights on the recording / arranging process behind this one! It’s a beautiful song. I’ll have to check out the others you mentioned too, but to be honest, I’d rather spend some more time listening to this one first. wink

Your songwriting talent is absolutely amazing. Doing such a number around thanksgiving and capturing that beautiful warm atmosphere in a timeless recording. The doubled guitars in stereo are a sweet extra. The lyrics I like a lot, as far as my english knowledge allows me to understand it. I say *thanks* for *giving* us this song.

secretly hoping (ok, not so secretly) for more wonky recording setups in the future.
i want to walk around the woods for hours kicking leaves & listening to this album in headphones
