Kapoc (Amiga OCS) (18kb)

So, technically I didn't write this this week - but I got it into distributable audio form this week... does that count?  (just - yeah - it's been a hard weekend)

This is a mixed / mastered version of an Amiga 500 cracktro / demo tune I wrote last year for Syntax.  I created this version so I had a properly mixed version of it which didn't exist before today.  I actually mixed the wrong version of the tune first time, so ended up mixing it twice (lol).  Damn I'm so tired.

Anyway, the original tune is 18kb (power packed) including samples, which is pretty small seeing it decompresses on an 8mhz Amiga 500 in less than half a second and plays with < 1% CPU usage (simplified MOD format ftw).  It inflates to around 28kb of memory - which is quite a small footprint!  A shitty emulator capture of actual demo is at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxDW-rly7GY

Samples from:

- Alesis XR-10 Drum Machine
- Omnisphere (but when on an Amiga, everything just sounds like it's an OG Amiga sample funnily enough!)

Mixed / Mastered Reaper

Listening to this bop, I never would've guessed you're tired at all! Super interesting to read up on some of the technical specs. 18kB is tiny indeed. Funsized might be the better word! wink

how can a kick drum sit so well in a mix. i love the track !

wiiiild!

Excellent tracking skills, as usual. Also I forgot to congratulate you when your crew won some category at Revision 2024 wink ... so extra congrats for this !!!

You blew my mind with the concept of "Omnisphere for Amiga". I know, I know... you were talking about sampling but... just for one moment, I could picture the unveiling of some obscure assembly routines running Omnisphere + Kontakt on a stock 512kb miggy ...

Now get some well deserverd rest

I got to listen to Amiga beats so always counts.

love the melody work in this

This is great! I just started making Amiga music last year. Picked up a A500 and have been having a lot of fun. One thing I need to try is challenging myself to make a super small-sized tune like this instead of loading big samples till I hit the 500 memory wall haha.

Yet another banging amiga track from the master. Such a huge sound from a tiny tiny file!!

I do enjoy that the Amiga can't help but put it's own flavour on anything that goes in, particularly these omnisphere samples!

Such a fun track! Nice chromatic slides in those harmonies

Going to Revision next week, so this gets me in the mood real good big_smile

I need to get me an Amiga!

oh hell yea, this exists now and the world is better now

Trick is to duck everything else around and not have the bass playing too loud at the same time.

Oh, yeah, that was our PC 486+GUS demo!  Cheers - we didn't see that coming and were so blown away.

Thanks all for your continued support - even when I've been super busy and had to take a break from WB for a month and a bit!

For those that are madly getting something in every week : I appreciate your efforts!  Some great tunes and I'll often just hit play on WB when I'm in the car (wish there was a way to voice comment on everyones tracks)  Annnnnd we keep rolllllllin....
