EDUCATION (dot.ay cover)

By cTrix on April 29, 2018 6:01 am

This is a cover of my buddy, dot.ay's, tune.  He wrote this track when he was approximately in his teens.  So for his birthday celebrations yesterday (more than a decade after this tune was written!) we decided to throw him a party where 15 of us did a cover version of his tune called "Education".

The DJ played them ALL back to back.  75 minutes of the same song by different artists.  Priceless.

It's now on bandcamp [ insert link here ]

My version is done with a Casio General MIDI GZ-50M.  Sequenced + Mixed in Reaper with all tones from the Casio.  Vocals processed with a couple of waves plugs for verb and distortion.

Funky! And the mental image of a party where the same song is played for 75 minutes straight is hilarious. Great bass as well!

Got a manic ska feel to it! Great tune.

Superb midified ska vibe here... I guess it would have to be a quite bizarre party!

I too feel the ska vibe. It must've been an interesting experience, listening to the same song over again while it's never really the same song.

Hahaha - thanks Rob.  I really went hell for leather in that second bit... "let's just do fun MIDI stuff for the rest of the track".  Would be fun to do a whole EP of MIDI Prog.
