Zamboni Express

By Cosmic Cairns on March 13, 2024 8:02 pm

I'm returning to dreams for inspiration again this week.  This time I had a dream that I was literally sitting down to record a song when my cat jumped up on my keyboard and while walking across it started playing an awesome melody.  Somehow through dream logic I was hearing the fully finished song coming out of the speakers even though I hadn't recorded any other parts to it and I was really digging it, not even aware that I was dreaming.  But then in reality my dog jumped on the bed and woke me up mid-dream.  At first I was a little disappointed because it was a pretty cool dream, but then I realized I could still remember a little bit of the song, which I'm not sure I would have if I had kept on dreaming and it had morphed its way into something else.  I couldn't remember the whole song, but there was enough there to work with.

I decided I wanted to add a vocal section and I remembered another different dream I'd had recently where I was driving across a giant frozen lake in a zamboni.  Then somehow I thought about how zamboni express sounds a little like pony express and I knew I had the title.

Doing whatever it takes
To get across frozen lakes
Ice stretching all around me
Cruising on in my zamboni

I dig all your dreamy melodies.  I was just playing the newest songs by "Artists I've favored" and when yours came on I was like, "Oh, I bet that is by Cosmic."  So, I'd say you are developing your "sound."  Good tune.

This track makes me very happy. I especially love that "chorus" around 2:20!

We do seem to grow into our signature sounds, don't we?  Thanks for listening!

Thanks!  That section wasn't part of the dream that originated this, but it seemed to flow out naturally from the part that was.

I really enjoyed this, such a cool palette of sounds, love the guitar tone

this is such a fun one, Cosmic Cairns!
that bendy melody brings to mind My Bloody Valentine - a good thing in my book  smile
i love it when i wake up and can still remember dream songs.

I love songs about zambonies. Thanks!

Now I hear MBV too. Are there miaus at the end? Fantastic job.

Excellent big drum sound as it kick starts the track right away.  There's a triumphant theme throughout this especially from the synthy pads.  That zamboni is takin care of bidness proper!  Also I would much rather pet assisted music than AI smile

I love this so much - it tickles all my powerpop/shoegaze receptors. Nice big, fuzzy sound.

Wooo, this is perfect riding a zamboni across a lake music. That melody is motivating but not too serious, just right. Like a zomboni. I'm not even sure if zomboni's go on lakes? Just rinks right? My favorite thing about zambonis is their name. This was fun. Great dream exploration and recollection.

I noticed it was sounding a little bit like MBV as I was recording, so I just kind of leaned into it.  Thanks for listening!

Maybe the cat made a cameo appearance...

This kid looks like a born zamboni driver.

Thanks!  It was fun to lean into that shoegaze sound for sure.

I like the word "zamboni" too.  Getting to use it was a big selling point for doing the song.  Yeah, I'm pretty certain the whole purpose of zambonis is for the maintenance of rinks and there wouldn't really ever be a reason to take one out on a lake.  But what if you found yourself in the situation of needing to get across a frozen lake and all you had was a zamboni?  I, for one, would use it.

whee this was fun, who doesn't love a zamboni.

Yay for zambonis!

Positive energy refill with a Cosmic Cairns - this never fails! I love the instrumentation on this one and the different movements of the track.

Thanks!  I was feeling the positivity for this one for sure.

That's one heavy guitar, very wooly. Sounds like a very pleasant dream.

The original dream was and hopefully I've captured a small bit of it here.
