Yoga Disasters

By Cosmic Cairns on January 30, 2026 6:46 pm

This one started out mostly as an excuse to play with a new toy I recently got, the Korg Monotron Delay.  It's certainly fun to mess around with, and I could have happily recorded a lengthy track just turning knobs and making weird noises, but I thought maybe it should have some other elements, so I added a vocal drone and some synths/pianos.    I thought it turned out pretty cool, and it was super fun to make it.

They're a fun little synth.  I haven't used mine for a long time actually.  I love the straightness of the piano lines against the craziness of the Monotron Delay.  Almost sounds like guitar.

There could be an amazing video with the title of Yoga Disasters too.  Haha.

maaaan I can't wait to hear more from this new toy! Love what you've done here. OMMMMMMMMMMMM 🧘🏼‍♂️

That is very very cool. These glitchy sounds, the screaming fuzz (sounds like a fuzz factory pedal) and the festival of sounds is great. I like how you used these sounds in a rhythmical way as well.
The opening at around 2:15 with the pretty melody is a very nice touch. I enjoyed this track a lot!

rather unusual take from you!  I like the wildness of the beginning and how thing become more and more organized as the track goes ahead. Excellent... the whole works beautifully, from chaos to enlightment. Well, that how Yoga works if I have understood it correctly wink

Yoga disasters is such a great title.

I imagine people locking up on impossible position and suffering in great pain.

Those beautiful healthy people are the worst for my self esteem!!!

That was a fun listen. Lots of cool sounds.

ooh love all those glitchy sounds.  your ommmm really set the mood and then my yoga mat was warped into a musical dimension controlled by the korg. the repeating piano brings it back to such a nice calm meditative state. A yoga disaster but a musical adventure \m/

Nice, very trippy!

Super chill and relaxed! Quite appropriate for yoga disasters, hahahahaha... Nice work!

I love the textures and how they move in stereo, like yoga for my ears, stretching the mind into a healthy, tasty flex and flexibility! So good! heart

well that was a fun journey! thank you for helping me escape the doldrums for a bit  smile
those little monotrons are super fun. i had gotten one for my son years ago and i think i probably ended up playing with it more than he did hehe

I love the monotron delay so much! It was technically the first analog synth I ever bought, and it's perfect for some crazy noise/beeps and boops!
The song has great structure despite being so abstract. Great work!

This was just so good. I really loved where this went and how you took us there. Beautiful work!

Had me 100% on board from the opening to the ending. Really like the mix of this and the squeaky sounds are the best, we can all agree. Demands a sequel smile heart

Auuugh! My brain! What a wild track and great track name.

Like an evil abandoned robot factory being powered on. Lots of great sounds in here, from the accelerating knob-twist chirp and vocal hum of the intro to the mid-static wobbles to the unnervingly-perfect chimes in the outro. My favorite's gotta be the middle, though, where a jingle loops as if it can't quite start up properly while glitches sputter around

Super interesting sound design in this one, great use of the stereo field to add interesting movement through out.

I love this, it sounds so cool. And it's true that one can lose hours playing with a delay, there's something hypnotic about the repeats

I've really been itching to buy a new hardware toy of any kind...and this track really isn't helping my cause. I feel stuck in a cage of VSTs and it sounds like you have so much freedom here to just go nuts. Cool track, I love the last minute especially.

Goddamn this is cool as hell.  The sounds you are getting out of that thing are intense.  Love the panning and massive range of sound and mood.  Would love to hear some of this incorporated into your songwriting.

I'm liking it a lot so far.  It seems to be able to create quite a variety of crazy and cool sounds.

It's going to make an appearance in next week's track, and I'm sure it'll pop up fairly regularly this year.

Thanks!  I liked the juxtaposition of the noise with a bit of melody.

I believe that is how yoga is supposed to work.  smile  I've always had a fascination with weird noises, but I maybe haven't been exploring that side as much lately.  Back in my 4-track days I made tracks along these lines more often.

I had to take a yoga class once for part of a theater group I was in in high school.  I was terrible at it.  I've never been super flexible and even trying to get in some of those positions was painful.  I was probably a walking yoga disaster.

Perhaps the disaster was overcome by the end of the track.  When I attempted yoga back in the day it felt more like the early part of the track. smile

Thanks!  It was fun making those trippy sounds.

I imagine yoga people would be very zen during their disasters.

Ears need yoga, too!

I can imagine that was a gift he didn't see too much of.  smile  For being so small, they're quite fun.

Thanks!  I am very impressed with the boopage and the beepage it creates.  smile

Thanks!  It was a journey for me to get there, too, but a fun one.

Now you've put the idea of a sequel in my mind, I just might have to do it later this year.  "Meditative Recovery Efforts" maybe?

It was fun to bounce some of those sounds around the stereo field for sure.

There is!  It's fun to get hypnotized once in a while.

I hear you.  VSTs are cool, but I do like mixing it up.  What I like about the monotron delay so far, is it's really small so it doesn't take up much space and it seems to have a good variety of cool noises you can make with it.  And it's easy to use.  Just some knobs and a little ribbon.  Pretty much no matter what you do, you're going to make some kind of cool sound, but you can also manipulate it a lot.

I do like me some noisy pop music.  I'll have to try to combine this with some more structured songwriting for sure.

forgive me cc your title just gave me this - before listening:

heart this track is a very fun journey & still leaves me curious about the yoga disater - perhaps not the same

LOL!  I would guess that's probably the most common yoga disaster by far.  I'll admit I didn't have anything specific in mind for it.  The phrase just sort of popped into my head somehow and it struck me as fun/interesting/intriguing.  What would cause a yoga disaster and what would it be?  Seemed like a fun thing to leave up to the imagination.  But once again, you've probably hit upon the correct answer.  smile

That title cracks me up. My yoga disasters are usually going too far and tweaking something. I do yoga at home now, so I guess the other disasters in that gif above are now a nice perk.
This song is fun, cool sounds, have always wondered about that monotron. Cool melody in the end.

When I took a yoga class in high school, I think I was the disaster.  The monotron is a fun little toy.  Not something I'll probably use on every track, but when I need a good cool weird noise it'll be a go-to I think.
