Weeping Willow Waltz

By Cosmic Cairns on June 6, 2018 1:11 am

I came up with the song title awhile ago because I liked the alliteration of the W's.  I sat on it for quite some time because I just didn't have a song to go with it.  Until now.  I grabbed a plastic bucket and a popcorn tin and bashed out a 3/4 beat.  Then I thought I'd spotlight some musical saw at the beginning since I thought it was a good representation of what a weeping willow might sound like if it could sing.  After that the main body of the song kicks in although the saw continues to pop up from time to time.  Hope you like it!

This is a classic. That saw has such an incredible vocal quality. And your vocals are, as usual, a delight.

I REFUSE TO LISTEN TO ANY OF YOUR TRACKS WITHOUT CELLO!

jk wink  That popcorn tin sounds awesome and now I'm hungry for popcorn.  Was that really a musical saw, not some sort of digital interpretation?  How cool!
Really nice background vocals.

Yeah there's something really soulful about the voice of saws.  I knew I wanted to use one on this even before I knew what the song was going to be.

I've found that popcorn tins make for good makeshift drums in a pinch.  And yes, it's an actual saw recorded with a microphone.  Not a digital version.  I even used my cello bow to play it so in a way my cello made an appearance.  smile   And thanks.  I tried to put some work into those backing vocals this week.

The saw intro is soooooo good.
And you cathing it real good with vocals!
GREAT... Will download it smile

professional recording, every detail sounds great and is on the spot. all together a timeless waltz only you can do this way. very very good multivocals make it a beautiful classic song.

I love me some alliteration! This is so lilting and cheery. I especially like the musical saw.

Thanks!  I felt like that intro needed a little space of its own.

Thanks!  I did feel like multiple vocals were important on this one.

I know...  I like alliteration, too.  And musical saws!

Sometimes hitting random things with sticks is the best thing you can do.

  I absolutely agree!

This is crazy! I thought that was a theremin at the beginning. Are you really playing a saw or is it sampled? Vocals are great. They are so out front it creates a surreal effect over the collection of eclectic instrumentation. I believe you have created the Sgt. Pepper of popcorn tin / saw bands. Very much enjoyed this.

Yeah, I'm really playing the saw.  With a cello bow.  No saw samples here.  Thanks for listening and glad you enjoyed!

One more vote for the musical saw, you have made it sound so expressive. Excellent recording too.

The saw did most of the work as far as sounding expressive.  They've really got nice voices.  Thanks for listening!

The willow might be weeping but the waltz is uplifting! smile

Thanks!  Maybe it's crying tears of joy.  smile

Lovely sounds! Saw and cello sing a lovely waltz, and your singing great as well, I like the image of sailing away ... I've never tried a waltz, they're kind of neat.

Yeah, the waltz beat is simple, but I do feel like there's a lot of different things you can do with it.  I might just do another one before the year's over.

Awesome tune, dude! I love the "AHHs" that come in about two-thirds of the way in. Of course, the saw is oh so sweeeet!

Thanks!  I tried to put a little extra something something into the vocal harmonies on this one.
