Village Idiot Redemption Tour

By Cosmic Cairns on April 15, 2022 12:32 am

I came up with the title of this one first and then wrote some lyrics to fit it.  I just thought it would be kind of a funny idea for the "idiot" of some village to travel around and try to make up for his idiocy.  As I started to inhabit the character, though, I realized I could relate.  It would be nice sometimes to just go around and be like "I will be better!"

I was a fool I'll admit it my friends
Now I'm on tour and I'm making amends
I was the village idiot
Now I've come to flip the script
And so it should come as no mystery
I want to be on the right side of history

I did things wrong now I'm making it right
Next stop is Wichita on Saturday night
I'm driving round in my old van
Doing everything I can
To say sorry for all the dumb things
I did when I didn't know better

I'm on a mission until the end
Gonna get my redemption
And be someone that I'd be proud to
Consider a friend and contemporary

Such a sweet story you are telling and giving this outsider a voice. He deserves his chance for being on the right side of history. The guitarsolos project that weird imperfection perfectly. I have to love this idiot.
A wonderful song and lovely executed. Thank you.

Thanks!  Outsiders and idiots deserve a voice as well I think.

That's one beautiful poetic journey. How many layers of acoustic rhythm guitars are you putting there? It sounds like there is quite a team.

There are two tracks of acoustic guitar on here.  I did two takes and layered them on top of each other.

Cool song man, love the weird machinery type sound that keeps coming up.  Definitely interesting song topic, very cool writing again.

Thanks!  That's actually another sound I found on the good old iris2.

Just better hope you know what you did wrong, lest you make yourself the bigger fool apologizing for the wrong thing.

Oh man, this sounds great! Your productions keep getting better. And your songwriting is as good as ever!

True.  This could quickly become a non-redemption tour.

Thanks!  I thought this one turned out pretty good.  Trying to keep improving on the production front.

haha yes, I can relate too! This bops along so happily. Great story here, good lyrics, always impressed by your lyrical abilities! Fun fun. Cool idea to start with a title and build from there. Also love that you thought it was fiction, but then realized there's some truth! Production on this is great too, so crisp and loud and clear.

I had a writing professor in college who said "All stories are true."  I guess this is the sort of thing he meant.  I'm trying to put some effort into lyric-writing and production this year while also trying not to take things too seriously and have fun.  Hopefully it results in a good balance.

The guitars sound great in this.  Great production on the mix and all of those added fx touches.  Excellent wah guitar sound too at the end. Nice work!

Thanks!  I love utilizing wah guitar when I get a chance.  It's such a fun sound.

Wow beautiful vocals and production! Love the deep rich vocal up front in the mix.  Some awesome melodic riffs and trilly synth sounds in the back of the vocals add some nice dimension and depth.

Thanks!  I liked the way those synths were interacting with the vocals, too.  Felt pretty good with how this one turned out.

The wah timing at the end, the sustained-stab of a synth, and the little squeaks in the right channel mostly contribute a lot to a delightful tune to begin with. Enjoyed listening to this.

Thanks!  I do think the little details can often make a big difference!

Feeling warmly towards this character, trying to make things right. You’ve got a real knack for storytelling through music. Really nice arrangement once again and those guitars halfway through are just magic. smile

Thanks!  I like to write fiction as well as make music so I'm trying to marry those sensibilities together a little bit, although song lyrics are definitely a different beast than short stories.  Glad to hear those guitars are doing their job!
