Utterly Uncivilized

By Cosmic Cairns on May 15, 2026 11:18 pm

There's a lot that needs to change about our world.  I took that idea and ran with it a little far.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I know we're merely animals but why must we
Always act so utterly uncivilized?
We could have saved the world a million times over
Instead we gave it all to a few rich guys

Pinned down by the boots of clowns
Let's flip the gameboard upside down
No more playing by the rules
Of these overprivileged fools

Maybe this world needs a complete makeover
On its most constituent levels
Let's remake the clouds and all the landmasses
Try to chase away the greedy devils

Make some noise let's scream and shout
Turn the ocean inside out
Fill the air with forceful wind
Replenish the oxygen

Turn the night into the day
Spin the globe the other way
Shake the tree limbs all around
Send the fat cats tumbling down

Let's watch them fall into Hell

Good track with a lot of energy. I read the lyrics after listening to the song (as I never listen to the lyrics), and it's interesting to see that what I took for a super positive track had an undercurrent of disappointment and rebellion. Good job as always!

Let's watch them fall into HELL! I love these lyrics. The background synth at 40s sounds so great! Love it all.

Let's flip the gameboard upside down

hell yeah, Buddy!

With apologies to Ursula K Le Guin: their power feels inescapable, but then, so did the divine right of kings. *Love* the main guitar hook, melancholy but bright like Disintegration-era Cure. Really like the mix on the bass here. And there's some hard acoustic guitar chops under hiding the verses that hint at the anger. But my favorite bits (besides the guitar hook) are the voice-like synth pads in the bridge and outro

What a glorious sight that would be, lol...
Super fun and playful, even though the subject is so urgent and real. Very good!!!

The protest song the world needs right now.
Solid songwriting. Loving the open ending as an invitation to take up the torch.

Love the groove going between the guitar, drums and your vocals. Awesome uplifting energy from beginning to end. \m/

Stick it to 'em, Cosmic Cairns. heart This track rocks!

Uncivilized indeed. What a shit show. Not your track, this was fa un show. Nice to have an energetic almost happy sounding track but have serious subject matter, good way to come at the topic and the call to action, let's go.

Oh man your music just blows me away how quickly you're able to churn out really high quality sounds. Fantastic!

hell yeah, the raw guitars on this really suit the vibe of the lyrics! Great work!!

That opening riff is great. This turned out awesome. Great work!

As a listener, I often don't pay attention to lyrics either, especially at first.  I generally place  more emphasis as a listener on the music.  I do appreciate when a song has good lyrics though, and from the writing perspective rather than the listening perspective, I'm trying to put more thought into what I want to say.  I also sometimes like when the lyrics and the music don't necessarily have the same tone i.e. happy music, sad lyrics.  Anyway, thanks for listening!

Thanks!  I felt these lyrics this week for sure.

I had a friend a long time ago who would flip over the board if he was losing at Monopoly.  I found it obnoxious at the time, but now I think maybe he was onto something.

Thanks!  It does often feel inescapable, and I often feel helpless, but at least getting the thoughts out in song form helps a teeny tiny bit.

I'd buy front row seats for that view.  Maybe someday...

I can only hope this is one tiny spark in an eventual much bigger bonfire.  Thanks for listening!

Thanks!  I think we can be angry and uplifted at the same time!

Thanks!  I may only wield a miniscule blade, but I will gladly stick them with it.

Thanks!  It's indeed a serious topic, and things really do need to change, but maybe we can still have a little fun along the way.

Thanks!  Weekly Beats does teach you quickness if nothing else.  smile

Thanks!  I'm a fan of raw guitar sounds, but don't always feel like I can pull them off convincingly.  But sometimes you've just gotta go for it.

Thanks!  I like that riff, too.  I made a point to bring it back at the end.

Listening after w21 where I was applauding the lyrics not having some big message. Interesting to compare these two. So much harder to say something particular without being preachy but I think you did it well.

Like “let’s remake the clouds”

aint this true, "I know we're merely animals but why must we
Always act so utterly uncivilized?". Ripped another one!

Thanks!  Yeah, there are some weeks where I feel like I need to say something "real" and there are other weeks where I very much do not want to deal with reality.  I think both approaches are cool.

Thanks!  It felt real to me.
