Sway

By Cosmic Cairns on February 22, 2024 1:43 am

This was an idea I had back in week 2, but then I got sick and kicked this down the road for a time when I thought I could sing it.  I was inspired by the feeling of being curled up in a warm bed while a storm is raging outside and gradually transitioning into dreamland.

Branches sway dreams are on their way
You're wrapped up warm
Falling rain taps on window panes
The raging storm
Whirls around and vents its fury at the world
Safe inside your bed you're curled up

And today starts to slowly fade
Into the ether
Roll away on a cresting wave
Bound for wherever
Maybe catch a train that's headed towards the stars
Destination simply everywhere

Float away your limbs gently sway
With astral rhythms
Feel the pulse of the whole cosmos
Escape your prison
And go anywhere you think you'd like to go
There's no time here so take it slow

Found your path things are clear at last
No more confusion
And this life with all its pain and strife
Is an illusion

Love the vivid lyrics and vocal harmonies throughout.  The guitar strums def gave me the restful sleep vibes.  Like I'm montage_floatin away smile

It is my honor to be the first one to leave a comment. So, I start with a warm big thank you for the enrichment of the universe with another classic cosmic cairns song. There is so much I like in here. The lyrics are ingenious and imaginative, the music has a nice pulsating drive and has a beautiful rich instrumentation, chord changes and heavenly sweet arrangements, especially your background vocals around 1.40 min. ( letˋs go to San Francisco by the flowerpotmen????)The guitarsolo at the end has some nice tremoloflavor and a cool Fender Amp sound. This track is a very lovely gift to the mankind.

While I wrote the comment, tone matrix was faster to catch the poleposition. He deserves it.

joined in the same illusion,  lyrics on point!

I really dig the indie folksy vibes this one gives off. Also, really great job with the vocal harmonization that kicks in at around 1:38, super fun! The 5 beat drum also gives it a marching style backbone that I wouldn't expect, but fits really well.
Awesome job!!!

Very smooth!  You love dream-songs!

nice melodic work here, Cosmic Cairns!

There's something very liberating about this track. Float on my friend!

Happy magical feelings and imagery. I like the idea of daydreaming perhaps then just floating away to other places where pain and strife is an illusion. I'll take that trip any day.  Catchy melody, really intriguing lyrics.

This is super close to a haiku, and probably my fave

With astral rhythms
Feel the pulse of the whole cosmos
Escape your prison

Thanks!  I think we could all use a little more restful sleep.

Sometimes when you're writing a nice, long comment someone can sneak in ahead of you.  But thank you so much for the very kind words.  Much appreciated.

Just gotta remember sometimes it's not real.  I often forget.

Somehow early on I just heard the marching beat with it and just went with it.  Thanks for listening!

I've been feeling the dream song vibe so far this year and have leaned into it.  I'll probably hit some other topics over the course of the year, but if I'm able to mine inspiration from dreams, I will circle back to them for sure.

That's funny!  I didn't notice how close it is to a haiku, but it really is.  Totally unintentional, but cool.

Great piece portraying the world as it really is… has even some irish feeling too in my opinion, like a bunch of friends at a late evening pub session or a campfire get-together. Communal and uplifting. Moreover i think your arrangements are getting better and better…not that there was nothing wrong with them in the first place, but you seem to be on a sort of roll as an arranger.

Very sweet sounding, perhaps there can be some room for those sweet rain taps, move the astral train sound up ahead a little.

Thanks!  I can see the Irish thing, especially like you said at a pub or campfire.  And I hope that I am improving in the arrangement front as well as other areas.  I'd like to see at least a little bit of improvement every year that I participate in Weekly Beats.

Thanks!  It was one of those ideas I was sitting on for a little while, so it was good to finally develop it.

Somewhere Wes Anderson has a film missing this song! A warm and dream filled march to slumberland. The tremolo guitar and brass are awesome!
