Stay Classy Gigolo Joe

By Cosmic Cairns on February 18, 2020 5:30 am

So the opening couple of lines of this one just popped into my head recently.  It seemed like a really silly novelty sort of thing so I kind of dismissed it at first.  But then I found myself continuing to sing it so I thought, all right, let's see if I can make a song out of this.  It kind of seemed like the type of track that had the potential to be a totally embarrassing train-wreck if I wasn't careful.  I have lots of old cassette recordings of silly songs from my younger days that seemed really funny at the time, but became kind of cringe-inducing to listen to later.  I think the key is you can't be "too cool" for the song.  You can't be too ironically detached or feel like you're above it.  The only thing to do is jump right in and try to really sell it.  So I did my best to do justice to this silly idea I had and I think it ended up coming out pretty cool.  Hope you enjoy it.

Totally getting a Grateful Dead vibe from this.  Love when the super bubbly synth bridge kicks in toward the end!

Thanks!  That synth bridge was definitely fun to do.

Fun track smile. I really like the piano on this one.

Oh yeah, that was indeed pretty cool (and catchy!!)

I'm such a terrible friend because this is the first comment I'm leaving for the year!

And it's perfect because this song is about me, right?  HA!

this is hilariously catchy, I'm going to be singing this in the elevator and I'm going to get looks, I just know it.  The self-harmony is really good

Yeah i definitly enjoyed it:)
Hope you feel never to cool to bring stuff like this...
Fun thing is i had similar feels about my entry this week...
Its really catchy... i started whisteling along:)
And nice solo by the way...

There are lessons in this song for all of us. Fun track and instant classic.  I'm sure I'll have it in my head all day and promise to tell a few people at work to stay classy.

Thanks!  I'm not super awesome at piano, but I felt from the beginning this track just needed it, so I went for it.

Thanks!  I wasn't sure when I started it how it was going to turn out, so glad to hear it's ok.

Oh hey!  Good to see you around here.  smile  Yeah, the song's totally about you, don't you know?  And yeah it was the damn catchiness of it that made me decide to work it up.  Couldn't stop singing it myself.

Thank you.  I think worrying to much about looking cool is probably detrimental to making good music.  Better to take some risks sometimes, even if you end up falling flat on your face.

Glad to hear it.  I think telling co-workers to stay classy sounds hilarious.

Hahah how have I missed your tunes this year? This is wild. Really well done, down to the floaty quirky guitar solo.

Thanks!  I personally try to check out a good chunk of each week's offerings, but there's so much stuff and so little time that it's hard to get to all of it.  I'm sure there's some really awesome stuff I'm missing every week.

Ha ha.  Nice.

Ahh this singing is so goood. You have a really nice timbre to your voice, some of those high notes in the harmony are sick. I like the philosophy of doubling down on your ideas too, that's a good one. Really nice!

Thanks!  I started singing out of necessity since I wanted to have songs with vocals and I'm doing everything myself.  I've come to like my singing voice okay.  I still can't stand listening to a recording of myself talking though.  smile

This is great! I like the harmonies too... somehow reminds me of Syd Barret´s solo stuff. So positively in your face-styled, nothing pretentious about this. Love it smile

Thanks!  Some of Syd Barrett's solo stuff is fantastic, so I will gladly take the comparison.  smile

Classy. You're quite right about the music and it makes sense. Someone somewhere will like it.

I ended up liking it more than I thought I would when I started it.  I suppose that's something.  smile

great song, man. Fantastic singing in here. I fully agree with the Syd Barret`s solo comparison.

Super catchy well done.

  Thanks!  Appreciate that.

As long as its fun, it will never be cringe. Sick track

Thanks!  I'm feeling pretty optimistic that I won't cringe at this one later on.  smile

Super catchy vocals and a fun track overall with the instrumentation.

I could see this slotting into the White Album somewhere for sure.
