Return of Space Coyote

By Cosmic Cairns on May 12, 2022 2:07 am

In the early days of the internet Space Coyote was probably my main go-to username for various sites.  Somewhere along the way it fell by the wayside.  Not for any particular reason.  I just kind of forgot about it and a lot of the sites I used to frequent a long time ago aren't even around anymore.  It's probably been at least fifteen years if not more since the last time I used it as an altar ego.  And then for some weird reason I remembered it the other day and I was like "Oh yeah!" and it sort of brought back memories of old school message boards and whatnot long ago.  And then I got to thinking maybe he took off on an intergalactic or interdimensional adventure around 2005 or so and just came back now and how different the world has become in those intervening years.  And then I guess I decided he was an actual coyote as well just to make things more fun.

I've been away
Went through the looking glass
So far away
Over the rainbow

Things have changed
Here in the neighborhood
Since I've been gone
Everything's different

And I've seen things
Out in the wilderness
Far more strange
Than I imagined could be out there
Nothing's familiar now
Even home's not what I remember

Now I'm back
Hope I can pick things up
Where I left off
Eons ago now

In my den
Everything seems much smaller
And less vibrant
Than I remember

I left home
Just a young pup
But now I have grown
Mentally and physically
Tested out all of my limits
Until I found out
Just where the edge was

Space Coyote's back again
And no one really understands
The magnitude of what fate's planned
For us

On my way
Back through the looking glass
Drifting off
Over the rainbow

Time and space
Ain't what they used to be
The Gilded Age
Is only beginning

We need to get music videos made for your tracks. I'd love to see a mix of video shooting and hand drawn animation! Maybe a mix between Yellow Submarine by the Beatles and the Lord of the Rings of the early 80s.

This track is beautiful and the background story is really nice. "Space Coyote", what a perfect pseudo!

The solo from 1:48 is the highlight, very fresh, has a dose of naivety and nostalgia. Nice harmonies from 2:28 on!

I would love to see a music video like that for this song.  I've only ever made one video for a song of mine that I shot on my cell phone probably close to 10 years ago now.  It was fun, but took some work.  I don't know how some people around here are cranking videos out every week.  smile  And oh yeah, that Simpsons episode is totally where I got Space Coyote from back in the day.

This rocks. Love the idea of old usernames from the 90s coming back from journeys, a different version of the dumbass I was back then, grown up different. Probably not at all the same -- this is triumphant and the solo's lovely. Excellent song.

Thank you very much for this beautiful song. There is so much great instrumentation to discover. Lot of work I guess. The printed lyrics always help me a lot to dive into your thoughts and to understand what the song is about. I neglected my cello, btw, should give it a nice try as well.

Cool drum intro. The cello, synths and bass all blend together beautifully. I like the lyrics, especially "time and space ain't what they used to be". My old gamer handle is ScreeminCheese from 20 years ago.  My 13 year old son decided to use it for his gaming name so hopefully his children will some day use it as well.

Thanks!  Thinking about who I was then as compared to now... I can see some similarities but there are also some cringe things I'd just as soon forget.  It would also be interesting if that person could have journeyed off somewhere and developed differently and then came back, just to see how similar or different we'd be now.

I used to be a little shy about my lyrics, but I've decided to just get over that.  Even if they're not all total winners, you also never know what someone might respond to.  I do try my best each time to convey some sort of thought or feeling.  I'd love to hear what you could cook up with your cello.

That would be kind of crazy if our old usernames went on to outlive us or became some sort of new family names.  Thanks for listening!

He had to go, his people needed him, but now he's back, because you needed him more
I know all too well what it's like for the past to return

He always goes where he's needed.  I needed him this week and sure enough he came!

This is straight up wonderful

Such a super catchy track!  Really cool vocal harmonies and enjoyed the guitar solo.  Well done!

. Thanks!  I like vocal harmonies when I can actually pull them off.

Songs like this really takes me out of my mind; feeling like I'm just flowing through this ride of a song

My ICQ number was 13323083. I'd like to get those bits of memory back for something else, but I can't forget it no matter how hard I try. Thanks for taking us along for the ride big_smile

It's for sure nice to get out of your own mind once in a while.  Thanks!

It's funny the sorts of trivial things that get permanently lodged in your brain.  I can still sing the theme songs for various Saturday morning cartoons from the 80's, but I can't remember how to do any of the calculus I studied in college.  Thanks for listening!

Great story of the Space Coyote, enjoyed this. Love the synth pads, and cello? Nice piece!

Yeah there's some cello on this one.  Thanks for listening!

Such a pleasure to read and listen along. I feel like Space Coyote is feeling a little bit alone with the powerful knowledge he learned when he was out on his mission, but in good time he can share it with everyone now that he's back. Always a pleasure to listen to what you do, so often brings a genuine smile to my face.

Thanks!  That's a great read on the song.
