Quiver

By Cosmic Cairns on October 20, 2020 8:02 pm

Every now and then I'll get a little something stuck in my head, which in this case was the main melody.  I had to whip up some words to go along with it, since it seemed like the type of song that should have them.  I realized I haven't utilized my cello for a little while, so I made some prominent usage of it in this one.  And then, because I couldn't resist, there are a couple of hopefully fun synth sections as well.  I think I like this one.

I thought you should know that I'm all right
But I gotta get on the next flight
Somewhere they've never heard of
Dampening out the inner light

A silver arrow's in my sight
I filled the quiver up last night
And now I'm not the one who
Quivers under the stars so bright

Got lost in thought there for a time
While overhead the full moon shines
And lights up clouds that stretch out
From here to the horizon line

I'll turn my eyes from side to side
Take in the sky so deep and wide
A vast expansive ocean
I get dragged away by its tide

This is fantastic. Really love the cello in there, and synth sections fit really nicely, too (especially that last one!)

listened to this more than 10 times. It got better and better everytime. What an incredible goodliness. Kudos!

Thanks!  I wanted to give that second synth section a little extra oomph.

That's really neat to hear.  Thanks for the awesome gif also!

Cello sounds excellent along with the positive feeling guitar.  Nice vocal harmonies especially.  Trippy synth touches too. Well done!

This would be right at home in a Wes Anderson soundtrack.  This SHOULD be a Wes Anderson soundtrack. Damn, now I want to see the movie. Beautiful cellos... glad to see them back.  The guitar strumming (ukulele) riff is super catchy and ties everything together.  I think I heard dolphins singing and whale song during some of the synthy parts. You must have a big studio!

Thanks!  It was fun to put this one together.

No dolphins, whales or other cetaceans on this track, just some synths that maybe sound a bit like it.  I wish my studio was actually big enough to contain a dolphin tank.  As it is I don't really have enough room to contain my various music toys.

works very well... the strings and the synth sounds you have chosen go very well together... the song is lovely too.

Thanks!  I knew I wanted cello featured prominently, but I thought a little contrast in texture with the synth sounds might be nice, too.

The guitar is great, it has a lot of positive energy to it. Simple but so effective. I like the atmosphere the cello brings and great vocal melodies!

Now all you're missing is that popcorn tin and the band's mostly back together.

haha this is so cool, the upbeat energy is really infectious. Love it!

Thanks!  I was pretty happy with how the guitar turned out and how it clicked into place with the vocal melody.

Oh yeah, the popcorn tin needs to make a return before the end of the year.  For sure.

Thanks!  I was feeling a good vibe with this one.

The guitar got me from the start. The cello is a great addition. I love the quiver you put in the cello to match the lyrics.

Thanks!  I knew cello was going to be featured in this one from the start so I had it in mind while writing the song.

This is great! I feel like I'm out under the stars. Or on that airplane late at night. You have a great gift of lyric melody! These lyrics are great, the melody as well. Isn't it nice when songs just appear and you get to capture them? Always nice to hear these.

Yeah, it's my favorite when they just sort of pop into my head fully formed or close to it.
