Ouroboros

By Cosmic Cairns on May 22, 2026 8:47 pm

Another week where I came in with no idea whatsoever what I was going to do.  I started noodling around with a couple synth lines and then everything else seemed to just kind of flow out pretty quickly from there.

Blasting away in my silver ship
Setting sail setting sail setting sail setting sail
Saturn's rings forming an ouroboros
The snake eats its tail eats its tail eats its tail
Plotting a course to the farthest star
I can see I can see I can see I can see
Drawn to your long distant beacon light
Calls to me calls to me calls to me calls to me

I love the beat and the sonic explorations of this track. It does flow organically and naturally, so good job on making it sound effortless!

i like the sound of these drums! were these live?
those panned electric guitars are so pretty. really nice spacey vibe, my Friend

I really enjoy how organic your songs feel. It's super characteristic of your whole sound. Nic ejob here, friend!

The sounds you've chosen for this are great. Such a diverse sound. I also like the arrangement with the long lead up to the vocal part. Nice work!

Love the groove between the drums and the synths.  Oooh your vocals sent this into outer space!
Awesome work! smile

Love the floaty instrumental parts with all the synths swirling around. Choir part is super cool. The little vocal verse is a nice way to wrap it all up in a sweet little story.

Makes me nostalgic for chillwave. Agree with several other folks here that the rhythm section is particularly nice this time, especially the drums with their garage-y punch but laid-back groove. The layered synths from the beginning and throughout are hazy and innocent, like watching a sunset on a hilltop with friends. The pairing of the clean guitar line and the spiraling buzz at 1:36 is fun, and the shift at 1:58 with the right-channel synth line is even better. Love the wordless psych vocals at 2:20, very pretty! Really like the processed harmony swells on every even vocal. And the guitar/bass outro duet comes back to that childhood sweetness without feeling saccharine.

Are the space flights an escape, or just the long way home? An endless pursuit, but a hopeful one

I really like the overall aesthetic and the simplicity of the lyrics. My songs seem to need to be about something substantive whereas “setting sail to somewhere” gives a great result.

Nice discovering this song for us and being so kind to share it!

chill, love the wide guitars well done! To the stars we return.

Whoa this was so cool! Reminds me of old STRFKR, my all time fav band. Can't wait for next week!

Forgot to mention, I really liked the concept of waiting til the second half for the vocals to kick in :-)

A dreamy, peaceful trip through the cosmos. Love the fullness and layers you built up. Should be required astronaut listening. Love the vocal pads in background, and yeah cool to wait for the lyrics until end!

This turned out awesome. Great build up.

Thanks!  The flow state is always nice if you can get there, but sometimes some old fashioned perspiration can do the trick, too.

I got 'em from a sample pack, but I did produce them a bit to what I thought was a cool sound.  I liked how those guitars turned out, too.  Thanks for listening!

Thanks!  There's always a certain discovery process that takes place when I write/record, so that probably contributes.

Thanks!  Sometimes I like having vocals come in late.  This time it was less an intentional idea, but rather they were the last thing I thought of.

Thanks!  I was feeling a little bit of outer space vibe with this one and the vocals definitely contributed to that.

Thanks!  I was sort of thinking this might be an instrumental, but then I could just kind of hear the vocal part so I threw it onto the end.  I think it makes for a nice summary of the track.

Thanks!  I often look at music as a form of escapism, but there's something about long journeys home that appeals to me, too.

Thanks!  Sometimes specificity and substance are called for and sometimes I think it's okay to just hit a mood or a feeling or be completely abstract.

I like to explore different places, but I'll always enjoy visiting the stars.

I listened to a little bit of their first album a long time ago, but that's a band I totally forgot about.  I'll have to check them out some more.  The vocals coming in at the end was mostly a function of me not thinking to add them until I got to that point, but I like having them come in late, too.

Required astronaut listening would probably be a cool playlist.  Thanks for listening!
