Narwhal

By Cosmic Cairns on April 6, 2022 4:22 pm

This week I'm a narwhal.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Here I go chasing after rainbows
Through ice flows or wherever the wind blows
Water's cold but I'm in it for the long haul
Raise my horn like all the other narwhals

There's so many things to see in this watery world
I hope I have the time to do it all

Hold my breath and dive down to the trenches
Pay respects to the Orca Princess

Oceans of deepest blue and vast seas of green
Long submerged mountain ranges set the scene

Sometimes I close my eyes and soak in the silence
It's good to get away from chaos and violence
And think about what it means
To be a good narwhal in these troubled times

Off I go wherever the waves take me
Roll around and let the ocean shake me

I sure am grateful for another great day
I wouldn't have it any other way

"This week I'm a narwahl." - I am pretty sure these words have never ever been written in the long history of humanity.

The intro and then breaking into a 60s pop song about narwahls. This is so awesome! Where did you get this idea from? This is borderline insane. The pop quality of this track however is absolutely impeachable. Great positive energy, melodies. Beautiful beautiful.

I'm happy you're a Narwahl this week. tongue

^^ This, exactly.

Hard not to smile when this kicked in, or when reading the title, description, lyrics, or watching the gif featuring a narwahl going about their business.

This put a huge smile on my face. This brought some much needed wholesome joy tonight. Thank you heart

Big smile, a joy to listen to. What a pleasing introduction to the wondrous Narwahl universe. So much personality. Love the way the the occasional bursts of dirty guitar interact with the vocals in the main body of the track, and the blissed out guitar crescendo ending. Always of a fan of this kind of perfectly loose timing. Top notch.

Thanks!  I don't really know where the idea came from.  The melody kind of popped in my head a couple nights before I recorded it and I somehow pretty much instantly knew the song was about narwahls.  Perhaps I received some sort of psychic narwahl transmission and channeled the song they sent me?

Thanks a bunch!  I was very happy to be a narwahl this week.

Thank you.  I may have to revisit the narwahl universe at some point this year.  It was fun to spend time there.

Narwahl! Like a unicorn of the ocean, this track is a veritable unicorn in my ocean of feelz today heart

How many pounds you bring on the scale this week? Nevermind, I take you, as you come, and I will love a hugh narwahl too, especially such a musically specimen.

Thanks!  I feel unicorn/narwahl energy is good energy.

I'm afraid to weigh myself.  You have to eat a lot of krill when you're a narwahl and I may have overdone it.

Clear mix this week! As always super honest vocals and nice storytelling. Take care you lovely narwahl.

Thanks!  I'm making a conscious effort to try to get better at mixing.  Also I recently went to the doctor and they cleaned a bunch of earwax out of my ears, which honestly probably helps, too.

You are on fire with wisdom and melody and structure, my friend! Beautiful!

Thanks, man!  I had fun with this one.

Instant smile from this feel good track. Excellent pace and that intro was sweet!  *claps*

Thanks!  It's always nice to share some smiles!

I think there's a lesson to be learned from this, either being a narwhal is good, or we should just chill out sometime

I suppose both of those are probably true.

Livin' the narwahl dream.

I hope your week as a Narwahl was eventful. What will you be next!? This is such happy fun Narwahl adventures, now I want to be one too. Amazing these exist. I hear some things I can relate to in this Narwahl's story. Love that somewhat whalish sounding synth in background.

That was a fun week.  Perhaps I'll have to revisit being a narwahl at some point.  Yeah, I chose that sound because I thought it was a little bit whalish.  Glad to hear it worked!

Awesome backing vocal effects. Love the bridge (middle) vocals and chord changes. I hear shades of the beach boys in some of the vocals and experimentation. This Narwahl sounds like he's on a roadtrip.... this sounds like traveling music.

I feel like having a little Beach Boys in the mix is rarely a bad thing.  I think this narwahl is on his way somewhere for sure.

I think the song's delightful, but made me sad, particularly the soak in the silence / away from chaos violence lines. One of these "kinda bummed out a little I'm not a Narwahl" moments -- but this one hits different. I really like this song.

I wanted to be mostly upbeat, but I did try to include a hint of melancholy.  I think sometimes I'd rather be a narwahl, too.
