Moonglow (2016)

By Cosmic Cairns on September 20, 2016 1:43 am

I only had a short window of time to do some recording this week due to stupid work, so I decided to record a new version of an old song.  The original dates back to around 2004 and was recorded on a 4-track cassette recorder.  This new rendition is fairly faithful to the old one with a few minor changes and added embellishments.  It's a lullaby of sorts I suppose.

A rather unnerving lo-fi lullaby. Vocals are rad.

I love the way this song starts!   I kinda want that to be a real saw you're playing!  Love the solo too.

Thanks!  The vocal harmonies were a new addition to this version, so glad to hear the vocals work!

The good news is it is a real saw.  I rescued it out of a friend's garage some years ago.  It's now retired from cutting stuff and is a full-time musical instrument.

This is incredibly pleasing!

Well at any rate it's less lo-fi than the original which was full of tape-hiss and super crappy recording quality.  Those were the days though.

Thanks!  I've been messing around with saws for about 15 years now, so I've gotten halfway decent at hitting the right notes.  It definitely can be tricky!

A nice tune to float down a stream smile  Love the solo towards the end.  Nice job!

Thanks!  I rather like that solo, too.  smile

Such a nice moonlight campfire lullaby song. Love how in your songs there's some random noises, plinks and plops and such, makes you feel like you're in a room with music, or outdoors. And yeah, SAW. I've got a fever and the only prescription is more SAW!

Cool dude, sounds like a pumpkins Mellon collie B-side... yeeeeah nice one big_smile Nice campfire song

I started dropping objects sort of in time, but the sound they made when they landed was unpredictable.  I kind of liked the effect.

I'm pretty sure that's the first Smashing Pumpkins comparison I've ever got, but I'll take it.  I used to blast the hell out of Siamese Dream back in the day.
