Maple Maps

By Cosmic Cairns on May 8, 2026 6:46 pm

I was in the mood to do a kind of fuzzy rocker sort of thing.  For the lyrics I really leaned into surreal and dreamlike imagery.

If I was there and you were over here
We wouldn't know where each other's gone to
You'd be away and I'd be wandering round
An uncharted place that I feel drawn to

I keep on sifting through piles of maple maps
The forest growing after the world's collapse

Once in a dream I saw a raging river
Far below me it boiled away and
When it grew dark saw rows of glowing eyes
I fled to the park and found you flailing

You asked me why the hills were whispering
We gazed at the sky colored by crayons
I took a seat and traced the twisting branches
Stretching past me over the gray lawn

I counted millions of forks in the road
Where different versions of me have often strolled

I found a place across the ocean where the
Forest spreads out underneath four moons
I'll lead the way guided by maple maps
And a giant whale evading harpoons

I jumped as high as I could and left Earth's orbit
I shed thoughts weighing me down the sad and morbid

Now I've become a shimmering comet blazing
Around the sun and off to deep space
Speeding on towards the blinding blur of stars
And objects unknown to find a safe place

heart this

a nice warm fuzz indeed!

hell yes! wow, an ocean of fuzz! with those tasty vocal and guitar melodies dancing on top like a silver surfer

I always love fuzz, so I feel delighted with this heavy serving of fuzz. And inverted keys too? I sometimes get even a surf rock kind of vibe. That was a cool track full of energy!

Intense!

What a bop, I wanna do a surf dance. Always love your lyrics, and these are up my alley for sure. Imagery I like. Love the guitar solo in middle! Hot. Love the backwards elements. Backwards stuff is always cool. I think most people agree.
So much fuzz, at first few bars I thought it was some glitch, cool how it comes and goes, like a fuzzy visitor just hanging around.

Love those lil backwards guitar bits \m/ Another epic journey! Oooh that guitar solo midway is excellent! This energized me!

FUZZY FIZZY great tune! The guitar work is killer

This was cool! V e r y fuzzy, and a great tune as well

Whoa, noisy fuzzy and  interesting sounds with tons of character.
Fun upbeat rocking popsong! What's with the white noise in the instrumental parts?
Super fun creative lyrics too!

Rocks. Great lyrics

What a creation!!

Instantly love the opening riff. Those reverse delays are great. Awesome track.

I love those swelling synths that circle around the punchy guitars and beats. It all combines into an unwavering wall of upwardly swirling energy that lifts the spirit so infectiously. heart

I'm a fan of the fuzz as well.  And backwards sounds.  I can see the surf rock vibe a little.

Yeah, I'm a sucker for the backwards sounds.  And fuzz.  I did think about having the intense fuzz stick around for the whole song, but then thought it was more effective if came in and out.  It's fun to do some more abstract and surreal imagery sometimes, too.  It creates interesting mental pictures for me.

Thanks!  The backwards guitar felt integral to me.  Glad you like the solo!

Thanks!  Sometimes you've just gotta bring the fuzz out.

Thanks!  What's with the white noise?  I just liked it.  I felt like it helped send things into fuzzy overdrive.

Thanks!  That riff was really the seed of the whole song.

Uplifting swirling energy is one of the best kinds as far as I'm concerned.  Thanks for listening!

Power pop firing on all cylinders. Catchy vocal melody, with sweet little jumps like rolling hills. Some of my favorite guitar work from you, from the main sunny jangle riff to the reversed notes in the verses to the joyful escape of the bridge solo. The square synth in the verses blends really nicely with the guitar. The fuzz crashes in the intro (and throughout) caught me off-guard and feel like an overwhelming rush of waves. Love the synth that blends with the snare the in the bridge. And I really like that it stops without a coda! No getting lost among the million forks, just a comet's flight through pop

Thanks!  Codas are nice sometimes, but I agree, they're not always necessary.  Sometimes I just like a little straight pop excursion.

woaaaah those stereo zings!!!

Fantastic vibes here. Really enjoyed the fuzziness!
