Lodestone

By Cosmic Cairns on October 23, 2018 10:02 pm

I was noodling around on the acoustic guitar and came upon the melody for this.  From there I decided to just kind of play around with some various vocal effects and backing sounds.  I kind of liked the feel of just going with the first takes, so it's not as "polished" as it could be.  But in some ways I like it better for that I think.

First takes are where all the magic lives if you can capture it. Great experimentation without losing the song. Beautiful string like sound floating among all the strummed instruments... not sure what it is. Also, crazy raw lead is a cool contrast.  This song sounds like spring emerging from winter to me.

Magnetic, with a strong tribal element.

Lively with the warmth of a live performance encapsuled, I particularly enjoyed the vocal harmonies big_smile

I agree.  I think first takes often have the best energy.  I'd like to use even more of them but I often screw up too egregiously.  I can live with some small errors but not horrible song-derailing ones.

Magnetic... not unlike a lodestone.  Thanks!

Thanks.  The vocal harmonies were a relatively late addition, but I thought they worked pretty well.

lovely!

Thanks!  And awesome gif as usual!

I always screw up first takes.

I'm loving the atmosphere of the song, it has an oddly satisfying progression to it.

Yeah, seems good stuff comes from the noodling and first takes, and this no exception. Like how this changes up, almost thought song changed. Very pretty melody and satisfying. Felt calming. I need to refresh my memory on what a lodestone is, I like its use in your lyrics though!

Most of the time my first takes are unusable, but I really do like them if I can get a halfway decent one. And thanks!

Thanks!  Lodestones are basically naturally occurring magnets.  I came across a reference to one in a book I read recently and I liked the ring of it as a song title.

I was wondering what you were up to. Honest awesomeness!

Oh hey.  Good to hear from you.  How are things?  You think you'll post any more tracks before the year is over?  I'd love to hear what you've been up to.

Love the main intro arpeggio, love the megaphoney vocals... good vibes smile

beautiful! The lead guitar in the end is truly wailing... great stuff, again.

Very fresh and lively sounding. Great track!
(The intro sets a great mood, has a hypnotic beauty to it that works on it's own as well.)

Dreamy guitar noodling intro!  Interesting progression from the intro to the cool pad/vox section.  Definitely feel the seasons changing theme.

Thanks!  The intro arpeggio is probably my favorite part, too.

Thanks!  I didn't originally know I was going to go there with that lead guitar but as I was putting it all together it seemed appropriate.

Thanks!  I was originally thinking of having the intro be the whole track, but it didn't seem quite long enough for me.

Awesome.  Changing of seasons was definitely an inspiration for me.
