It's Too Late For Shoes

By Cosmic Cairns on September 30, 2022 7:43 pm

While in Maine recently I recorded the ambient night sounds outside one of the houses we stayed at as well as my feet walking on a gravel path on my phone.  I thought I'd add a few synth lines.  The title came from a line spit out when I was playing with the AI lyrics generator a couple weeks ago.  I thought it was amusing, so I wrote it down.

The ambient sound of the night and the sound of gravel was really good. It felt like we were walking with you there. The title is wonderful, it makes sense in a dream state of mind. The synths are mysterious.

Love that title! I have that thought at night sometimes when I realize my shoes are still on. The thought of walking on gravel with no shoes is making my feet hurt a little smile  Love the ambience here. I feel like I'm out there at night in the forest. The synth line fits so well. Like a mystical animal off in the forest. And then more chattering coming from the trees.  Thanks for the peace and calm in the day.

I can feel the stars and the moon enlighten your scenery. it is a very special field recording you captured and beautifyed. I like the title as well.

It's never too late for shoes, there's always time.

This is a surprisingly cozy song.

This gave me some sitting by a campfire vibes at night but then when that lil percussive/vocal part comes in it has an other-worldly-alien quality to it.   Like an incoming message through a radio or video game ala Last Starfighter smile  funny how certain sounds trigger memories/imagery.  Peaceful and cozy indeed smile

This is beautiful―like a peaceful walk on a starlit night down a secluded forest path while the Flatwoods Monster is somewhere in there too, doing audible monster stuff.

I was happy with how the night sounds and gravel came out.  It sounded cool in person, but I wasn't sure how well my phone would capture it, but it did pretty well!

I must admit I was wearing shoes while walking in the gravel.  But they came off once I got back inside.

Thanks!  I love field recordings and was happy with how this one turned out.

Shoes might even come in  just the nick of time and save the day.

There's always something lurking in the woods beyond the campfire.  But whatever it is isn't necessarily hostile, I figure.

Thanks!  It was a very peaceful locale that I got the ambient sounds from.  But I do think there were monsters around.

walking on gravel without shoes... could be therapeutic wink

dig the ambient samples!

Couldn't be much worse than walking on hot coals, I imagine and people seem to like doing that.  When I heard those sounds outside I knew I had to try to get a sample of them.  They came out better than I expected they would actually.

i love the atmosphere around the synths, that whispery noise makes it feel like the reflection of moon and stars across a hidden body of water where all manner of rain, fog, and wildlife get busy in the dark big_smile

Thanks!  That's exactly the sort of imagery I had in mind.

There's this video game called Kentucky Route Zero (not Maine), where you are (among other characters), a driver for an antique shop trying to make a delivery to a street that doesn't exist. The soundtrack is a mixture of bluegrass songs and sublime ambient music, and the setting is this magical realism of the Deep South where you find modern-day hippies cooking sausages and playing the organ in a church that has been repossessed to function as an office building. It's a remarkable game, and this is a remarkable track. Love the streak you're on, whatever you're doing is working. Way into it.

The moon throbs. The stars fade away. It will only get later.

I'm not familiar with that game, but it sounds like it would be worth checking out.  I'll have to look into it.  Thanks!
