Irregularity Waves

By Cosmic Cairns on May 29, 2018 7:57 pm

I felt like having some fun messing around with my cello again this week.  I started with a few cello parts that sort of go together (although maybe not quite) and then started to loop them, multi-track them, and slowly add some effects to them.  I think one of my dogs snuck into the room and made a surprise guest appearance because I'm pretty sure I hear a collar jangle right at the beginning that I didn't notice at the time it happened.  Oops, but picking up stray noises sometimes goes with the territory when you're not recording in some sort of sound-proof booth and I've made it a philosophy of sorts to just embrace those accidental sounds, so I left it in.  Otherwise everything you hear is cello.

Wow, very cool. Not often you here real cellos on weekly beats. Such a great sound! They start to pick up into a real storm of stings. I think I heard the dog!

WOW! You did a great job on the cello. It inspires me to use my cello soon again. Fantastic kind of Steve Reich like repetitions.

There's always room for cello. Really impressive!

Strangely enough, I was also planning on some cello next week, though my chops are not nearly on a level with yours. ::)

Hey thanks!  It is nice to bust out a real cello once in awhile.  I've got nothing at all against synths, I think they're pretty incredible, but there's something about the sound of a real acoustic instrument that they still can't quite capture.  Thanks for listening!

Yeah!  Use your cello soon.  That would be cool to hear!

Thanks!  And by all means, the more cello the better.  Chops are overrated anyway.  Mine have certainly deteriorated a lot over the years. smile

Really neat stuff! Nothing beats the original instrument. This makes me want to try my accordion out next week haha.

Hey Jenelle, what's wrong with woofy, I can hear him barking, is he okay? ... . woofies fine honey... woofies just fine.. .. . . .. . . . .. Great track, loves me some cello. Have you heard the band 'The Dirty Three'? Nice stuff champ

Yeah, cello jam!! Love those layered strings. And I'm totally into the dog collar jangle too.

Wow!  I had no idea you played cello.  I am still trying to get good enough to play a few notes on trumpet for a future WB.

Fellow dog owner, also have a track with a secret collar waggle ;-)  Love it.

I would like to hear more cello in future CC works!  Cello + acoustic guitar + slapback echo singing = epic

Thanks!  You absolutely should bust out your accordion.  I'd love to hear it!

Thanks!  I am not familiar with The Dirty Three.  I'll have to look into them.

Thanks!  A little dog collar jangle never hurt anything and maybe even enhances it.  smile

Yeah, I used to be really good at it.  Like took lessons and played in the school orchestra and could play Bach sonatas by memory.  I can't do that anymore mostly due to laziness about practicing and letting my skills rust, but I can still do a little bit on it.  I used it on a couple tracks earlier this year, but I agree I need to use it more in conjunction with some acoustic guitar and singing.

DOUBLE OMG.

No seriously, bring back the cello to WB!  It'll awaken your dusty skils!

Okay!  smile  I promise I will use it some more this year for sure.

Always a fan of the cello and droney cellos even more smile  The collar would be a cool rhythmic element in future tracks too smile

That's a good idea.  Kind of a dog collar tambourine.   Just might have to use that.  smile

Whoa I didn't see this comment until just now.  Thanks for listening!  I'm glad that tone was energizing for you.  Maybe I should try it early in the morning.  smile

Wild! That is a beautiful sounding Cello.

Thanks!  It's a pretty good cello I think.  I've had it since high school when I was serious enough about playing that I wanted to get a halfway decent instrument. It's not like a stradivarius or anything, but it was a good cello for the level I was at.
